Drifting Places?

So aside from playing in the empty parking lots and things like that, where do some of you go to figure things out like a track or some kinda class or something....

well, they are building condos on the end of my street, everyone leaves by like 6pm, when i get out of work, usually around 11pm i usually just do a few fast laps through the building zone. not really drifting though, just being a nuisance to all my neigbors

You might not get a lot of posts, since most drifters will try to keep their good spots protected from bad company.

Very true! I will be kind though, and let you in on where I (me and friends) drift. You should come out some time and drift with us, it's such a perfect spot... you'd better promise not to tell anyone. I do it ...at the track, in an organized event. You should too.

Usually business areas/warehouses have big parking lots with no poles or curbs...the ones next to warehouses that have plenty of room to allow 18 wheelers to back-up their big-rigs to the building for shipping and receiving. Anywhere "made" for 18 wheeler parking is gonna be a big parking lot.

What about the cops? Do they write you a ticket or ask you what the heck are you doing?

The cops may arrest you or give you a ticket, or if they are cool, just warn you. It can be classified anywhere from reckless driveing, reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, "street racing" (bad misjudgement on their part), fooling around, car control, or retarded high school kids with nothing to do. depending on where you are, who is with you, if anyone complained etc... basically, don't risk it unless you know what you can get yourself into.

[ohhh yah, guys check this out. If you can go, then go to this meet

A little advice about drifting....keep it off the streets unless you have some skill! It looks easy but with out the right setup...things could go...crash

Well you must realize that many of us dont live in cali and there are no drift events ever held where we live. If there are then theres not many of them. So many of us dont ever get a chance to even try. I myself dont drift, but id like a chance to try maybe if an event should arise(and if i ever get an lsd ) If i had enough funding i would build a little drift track and cash in on this new fad! Make a replica of the Ebisu drift circuit stateside

That's why you need someone to take charge (like Moto has) and start organizing these events! Start talking to tracks about renting them out for a day (don't forget about any insurance/towing/medical stuff you need to have) and see how much it'll cost, see if they're willing to put an event like this on, and stuff.
If you can't find a road race track, look for large open parking lots and see what you can do with those. Talk to the owners of shops/malls and stuff, and get something going by yourself! There have got to be tons of other kids who're interested in giving drifting a shot, so you should have the participation/numbers -- all you probably need is a couple of good drivers to act as instructors/supervisors, and a place to do it!

if your lucky, like me, you will get a warning, not once, but twice. the cop considered it speed exibition for me, but gave me a break because he didnt accually see me do anything, he just saw me and my friends in a parking lot with lots of smoke in the air, and a little coming off my tires but that was campus cops and the state college, not city coppers.

He probably assumed you were doing a "burnout". usually "exhibition of speed" refers to a burnout. Who knows...

Whatever you decide to do, don't go drifting alone (if you can get friends to go too). Why? Ask Kookaburraz why I called him at 2 in the morning to get his car, rope, and some jacks... A sure way to sh¡t your pants is to make a whole lot of noise with your car for a good 30 minutes, then throw it into bushes and mud coming out of a chokudori. Yep waiting there for Brenden to come to my rescue before the cops do. I started taking off the rear plate in case I had to ditch the car. Anyway, moral of the story is, it is a lot safer and more reassuring when there are people to assist in crisis. Also, use 2 way radios to communicate. I won't tell you where to go or how to secure a portion of road void of traffic, hopefully if you were to do this you would be smart enough to figure out what to do. If not, do not attempt. Either way, realize that it is very dangerous and illegal.

taking the plates off wont help too much, they will jus look up ur vin #. but yea, never go alone, its good to have lookouts, and help if you break your ride. the cops knew what i was doing, they could see all the black marks i made everywhere, plus they saw what my friend was doing when they showed up, but we got off.

In Austin there is the old airport where an event could be set up. My boss told me about it, he is in a biker club and they were going to use the airport for bike shows and racing. But the city wanted 1000 an hour for use. I am wonding how easy it would be to set up a course and stuff like that to try and get something going in Austin. I would need to find sponsors for the event. But I think that it would something worth looking into. Thanks everyone for you input on the post.

No sht man. But there's that one event that's gonna be held on July 8th me thinks down at Summit Point. I'm stocking up on tires, and tie rods for that one. And then there's the DGTA trials if you wanna drive up to central Jersey. But yeah...There's no tracks around here. Dude...You don't need an LSD. You can drift an s13 perfectly fine w/out an LSD.
