I'm sure many shops "rebuild" (lol) KA engines but if you are talking about a modified or performance engine. I'm not aware of any KA engine builders near my area of Pasadena/San Gabriel. Any reputable engine builder can technically build any engine "right", with the exception to building full race only engines unless they collaborate with other engine builders that specialize in a specific mfg. Too many tricks of the trade that 1 person could solely know and understand. That is why we specialize.

Simply put, it comes down to what your build is in mind, time and money. If you know what you want and have done your research on all the parts and tweaks you want performed, this will be a well executed and potentially less expensive build. If you only give an example of what you want by saying something like race, drift, or time attack engine. You rely on the builders knowledge which may or may not be on target with what you want but will cost more since time is $$$ and a engine builder would need to put more time into researching the parts for you. It's a service hes providing if you choose to use the builder in that way.

I do build engines occasionally and fall in the "build engines right but not specialized" category. I was also a Master Cert. ASE Tech (Automotive Suspension, Electrical, Engine Rebuilding and Brakes) some years ago... but choose to build on the spare time. Right now I am beginning the assembly of a KA "DE" and soon add the "t" with aftermarket rods, pistons, engine studs, fully street prepped, ported & polished head and intake. I hope to have it running near the end of this month.

If you choose to go about the build yourself, I can supply you with a few shops for machine work and give you some help and advice. Plenty of that info is available here on Zilvia if you choose to research yourself.
