L16, L18, L20B, L24, L24E, L26, L28E, L28ET, LD28... ??????
You question is fairly unspecific and not well thought out. In the end, damn near ANY engine can be put in ANY chassis with enough work/money.

Yup. If an Rb26DETT can fit...inline 6...I don't see why a L28 wouldn't fit. My question is Why swap with an older motor? Seems back asswards. I see quite a few people with 510's and 240, 260, and 280Z's swapping newer SR's and RB's but no so much old motors into "newer" cars (s14). But hey, to each their own.

(BTW, you forgot the Lizzy, L22/LZ22 ![]() If you look through austrainian forums, I am sure you can find plenty of S13's running extremely built up L18's. I think thats the engine that must work the best. but as a straight drop in, the power wouldnt be there. If your looking for a track car, a SR, RB20 or CA all produce about the same power and are around the same price and amount of work. All three of those engines act completely differently though, so you should research exactly what you would want to match the motor sport of your choice and your driving style. Though I love the old L series engines, they are over 30 years old and need to be built to compete against todays engines. Fully built L18 with ITB's would be the only engine I could think might be a good transplant. |

sell your car to someone who knows that answer,
they stopped making datsun-branded cars in what like 86? even if the s14 is an 95 it still isnt something you should do

Many of the Datsun motors that have been brought up were barely rated over 100hp. Aside from some heavy boring and aggressive cams, some people turbo their L series motors. But then you'd want to upgrade it to fuel injection. But at that point, why the FUCK would you want to do it?
I love the sound of dual SU's on a good, strong L motor... But I swapped a KA in my 510 for a reason, and I think Ray can attest that there's a reason he has an SR in his, too.... |

Why would you want to downgrade?
Quite pointless if you ask me. While you're at it, why don't you just purchase a horse and have it pull you instead?

i'm getting rid of my L28 asap, I picked up a LS1 which after the swap puts only 30 additional pounds on to the car. i think most L-series are iron block and head, or atleast the block is. there are some bad ass L28's out there but definitly not worth putting in a 240. i saw a guy on another forum was attempting it... i think he scraped the project.

You COULD just build a Datsun with a Datsun motor in it...
To answer your questions, the amount of work needed to put an L motor into an S chassis depends a lot on what motor you choose. Motor mounts, tranny mount, radiator, fuel delivery, drive shaft, wiring, exhaust would all have to be done, as well as pedal assembly and god knows what else. In the end, it'd be a lot of work to essentially "dumb down" the car you already have. It's like saying "I could add 1000lbs of useless crap to my car, so I will!" You're different because you went through with adding 1000lbs of extra weight, but it doesn't make your car any better... |

![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZxU02nLMYo I'd be down to put a l28 in my s13. I think just because I think it would be pretty neat to hear a l28 coming from a 240's exhaust.

a set of carbs may run you more than doing your own ITB's.
you would have to check the datsun forums. regular top mount webbers would be a few hundred to several hundred probably, but a good set of large mikuni sidedrafts are still gonna cost alot I would think. so why not ask your question earlier with the ingine you would be putting in since you know what it is?? |

The cost of what you want to do is going to add up real fast. The motormounts alone is going to be expensive. Also, I don't think you'll be able to mount a KA tranny on the Datsun motor. KA's sell for about 500-600 bucks out here with tranny. Good luck...

KA-T ftmfw
if your s14's a 96 then it's obd2 anyways. you would NEVER pass emissions with an L series motor because it isn't obd2. KA's are not expensive or hard to find motors. if it's really that hard to find a KA then call the shop tomorrow and we'll ship one to you for many many doll-hairs, but i think if you take the time to search you'll find one no problem Dave @ Lethal Injection Motorsports 770-343-9969

You're a moron. In 14 years of working on nothing but 240s I have never seen anyone sell a KA for more than $750. And that was in 1998 on a 6k mile engine. They sold KAs outside of California. A lot in fact. I can find a dozen in one phone call. Adapting a old ass engine into an OBD-II chassis really is stupid. But you've proven your intelligence already, have at it. It's not like you're the first kid on here to completely ruin a decent car.
