Well the insulator was cracked but was on there still. I took it off and glued it back together, could that still be a problem? Other then that there is some shit all over the winding as you say from the polish, that could be an issue... The car starts up fine you can turn it on and off, but when you go and drive it and put any form of a power load on it, it will blow the fuse. Im going to get the alternator tested now and see what it puts out. Just to make sure there is the power terminal and one ground wire that plugs in and the pigtail plug on the right side of the alt ( under the vehilce looking forward)??

It's not overcharging though, that would mean the voltage regulator is bad and you'd see increased voltage, not amperage. Something is grounding out, maybe a winding got some grit on it and when it expands from the heat it's touching the case or something similar.
