Talking need some help with noise.

not making it hehe, but

my car whines sorta like its reverse when in Gear and when in neutral-when i rev up. i thought it was powersteering, it whines too but a deeper note. im guessing 2 things - tranny, or the belt on powersteering too tight?

theres is a thread, so why does it sound like im in reverse

But, it doesnt include the whining if you rev up in neutral that i have. and it doesnt occur till the car warms up.

help me out guys.

Not sure if this is it, but i was hearing a whinning noise, just like you are describing about 2 days before my alternator went. It was really weird and i couldn't figure out what it was for those 2 days. Then my car didn't start, and figured out it was the alternator.

listen closely to your car when its in neutral without pressing the clutch... does it make a winding sound then??? and when you press on it does it go away???

does your tanny slip occasionally?? i have the same problem... or almost at least... and i found out that it was my pilot bearing and throwout bearing...

might not be your problem... but it might help you out in solving what the prob is..

Yes! I had the alternator sound too! Sorry, had to say it. Anyways...if your engine is in the same condition mine was it might have oil all over the place and most likely in the alternator as well. What I do every now and then is buy some alternator cleaner at Pep Boys and spray the alternator. I always buy the can that says it's for the ALTERNATOR and electrical stuff, it works really well. Sure enough everytime I feel it needs it I am correct, because the oil comes running out. This stopped the whinning noise completely. I was also thinking it was the power steering until I gave up on tightening and untightening of the belt.

I also figured out we're supposed to use Automatic Transmission Fluid in our power steering and I have been putting in power steering fluid instead. Regular power steering fluid supposedly messes up the power steering pump over time and I didn't know that. So I poured out what was in the power steering reservoir and poured in the ATF. I don't know if that also helped stopped the whinning but that's my contribution to your problem. Report back when it's fixed.
