is late model OBD2 95 ECUs interchangable with 96?

I am planning on a tranny swap. they guy that sells the tranny has 95 ecu which he claims to be OBD2 .. i have a 96 240. which is by default OBD2 . My question is can i safely be sure that i can buy that stuff from him .. or i would have to buy a 96 ECU ?
precise answer would be gread since i am short in money ..

The 95 FSM just refers to OBD. Haven't ran into anything mentioning OBD-2. It's a pretty sure guess that the 96 models started the OBD-2, eventhough I remember people were saying otherwise on some other thread. Hopefully someone else speaks up, maybe someone with 96 FSM or something.

Yuo can use a '95 ECU on a '96 car...

Pinout are the same on the harness - Just the '95 ECU doesn't "look" for certain sensors the '96 car has...no big deal.

And the OBD thing is muddy - But for certain, the '95 cars ARE NOT OBD-I, but they are also not fully OBD-II compliant...the OBD-II scanners work in them on a limited basis, etc...

Anyway, you'll be fine - I have a '95 ECU in my '96 right now, due to a tranny swap...

Later - Brian
