SOCAL:authentic 180sx shell

this is a continued thread from my last. i got some good advice but id still like to hear other opinions. and just to throw it in there, i just turned 17 last week ive been saving for an s13. this would be my first car(even though its just a shell). i have a job and money to put into it but idk if it would be worth my money if it cant be registered. id love to keep the shell as a project track car, but im still conserned about the paperwork



hows it goin guys the names luke and im lookin for some advice.
i have a friend that has an authentic 180sx shell that was imported here about 5 years ago. i wana purchase this car but it has no paperwork what so ever. the question is...
WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS CAR REGISTERED IN CALIFORNIA??!

Nope dont even try. Not even worth all the drama. My moms worked for dmv for a long time. She still has alot of friends that work for it. Some noob came in with a Skyline with papers saying it was a 240 coupe. Well the tech knew better an sent it to CHP. Most likely that poor skyline got crushed.

to the op, just get a usdm chassis and save yourself a world of headache. you dont want to go through all the BS you're gonna have to deal with

A track car doesn't need actual paper work. I mean you could juts make a bill of sale for the shell.

But as for being able to register it, you won't be able to legally.

So I suggest highly that you just look into a USDM car that has paperwork.

17 and you want your first car to be a shell.. your an idiot kid grow up. long way to go on hopes and dreams. I say this because some of us have been there.. young, throw all our money on a car, when we could have concentrated on whats more important, school.. get a regular car and do school, pick up a s13 later in life when you can financially afford it.

buy the 180, and then buy a usdm shell. remove the dash. buy another dash. go to chp to get vin verified. get the usdm shell blue tagged because of the missing dash vin. then go home and cut the 180, and cut the usdm, and make the usdm rhd

its a lot easier than registering the 180

yeah its not. An dont think the cash unit wouldn't figure that out. The authorities aren't as dumb as you think. Getting pulled over in a RHD 180sx with papers of a usdm 240sx yeah that's gonna raise eyebrows of the cop. He might not tow the car right then an there but I can guarantee he will send you to CHP where those guys are trained to find shit like that. End result a crushed 180sx lost forever.

you cut the firewall off the 180, and put it into the usdm as a rhd firewall conversion.

just as if you had boughten a rhd clip for your usdm 240.

that is not illegal.

but oh well, to each their own.

You could get a vin from another car and if you were to get pulled over, you converted it to rhd and put 180sx windows on it... like a cop is gonna care and they can't really prove it can they? Nothing is legal these days they have rules on everything. It's your project anyways. But it is alot of work for a 180, but if it is what you want then just do it man. And for the people hating on you about a shell as your 1st car...give me a break he can get what he wants and he says he has the money.

And I am in know way promoting anything illegal here. I am stating obvious facts.

im not promoting illegal activities. no where have i stated to "switching vins"

if you know how to do a proper rhd conversion, theres a way to leave the usdm firewall vin on the usdm car, hence why its not illegal to do a rhd conversion.

so yeah, take a fucking hint on that

cali law states that you cannot tamper with vins. thats the only "law" against rhd conversions.

but if you were to find a shell with no dash, then, you have to buy a dash cuz it would be missing the dash, (duh) and the vin. hence why getting it blue tagged.

and then you can do the rhd conversion without removing the vins...

I wasn't suggesting that at all lol. I was stating it was possible to try. I did not know Cali was strict on rhd conversions or w.e. Around here that is all you have to say(for the most part) and they just move on. He could get a shell 240 take the vin(dash) w.e swap. crush that 240 and put it on the rhd and it's like nothing ever happened sorta. And ppl are calling him an idiot and to grow up cuz he wants to buy a shell to build. If he has desires to go to school then I am sure he will do so.

I guess but all that effort might as well get a usdm 240 an be legit. I have a 240 with a sr20 an that shit is drama enough. Think about going back to KA an just go slow a look good.
