Haha thanks guys.

Plan was to get some 1.5" spacers, and flat black the wheels to hide the tiny 17" wheels, but said F it and bought some proper wheels. Took me weeks of pouring over pictures and threads to get a proper offset. Not much info out there on aggressive offsets on a 996.

I tried using my eastwood to roll the fenders, and that shit don't bolt up to a 5x130. !!Damn you porsche and your 5x130!!, makes even finding nice wheels hard. Well let me rephrase that, makes finding decent wheels at a sane price hard.

Unfortunately Tek, there is really nothing cheap you can do for power mods. Porsche pretty much did all the work already. They have intakes but hp is marginal and causes CELs on most cars. The porsche design is already super nice. If you look at the back wing it has vents, which funnels right into the airfilter box.

It really does have plenty of power though. I think with these cars all you need to do is mod the suspension, wheels/tires, aero, and you are good.

Everything on the suspension can be upgraded to the GT3 supercup stuff. All the GT3 aero bolts up as you know, even the supercup wing.

FML.

I'm going to have about $15,000 into my s13... and sure, it will be a better car, but Damn this is such a better base to start from.

Edit: I'm the kind of guy that is building a Porsche destroyer, but that was based on the fact that Stuttgarts cost so much. You got an amazing car, treat her well!

Yeah love BBS LM's. Almost went with them, but got a way WAY better deal on my wheels. He actually has those wheels for sale for $4k. He has a C4S though which has wider rear fenders like the turbos.

They are:
19x8.5 +47 with 13mm spacers
19x12 +35 with 15mm spacers

a base 996 is FAR from a GT3.

just saying... easy $10k profit can get you into something with a lot more $/mod potential.

not to mention maintenance costs associated with anything Porsche...

From what you were saying I gathered that if a Porsche doesn't have a turbo, it's "meh".

So my choices are 911 Turbo or 911 GT2. Apples meet Oranges.

BTW, I agree with you on the fact that an additional 10k can get him something pretty awesome, but that's not the point here.

I like this, looks good. Just don't slam the shit out of it and actually keep it there (although I'd do it for awhile just to see what it looks like).

I've been entertaining 993 thoughts for awhile, but they scare me a little because if anything serious happens you have to take everything out from below, which is a PiTA.

Most of these kids wouldn't know a real sports car if it bit them in the ass.

I vote for a nice rear wing as well, I think the 911's look naked without a wing. I used to have a 996, still regret getting rid of it.
Thanks! Yeah, still have no intentions of flipping it. For a 11k car, it gets more looks than anything I have owned. I have an evo and s13/sr so I have plenty of fun cars, but will be selling one possibly two this year, because I really need to cut down. Unfortunately the 996 will probably go because the evo is almost done, and it's going to be a beast.

If I keep the 996 I would:

Sell the stance coilovers and go with full gt3 suspension/brakes and ohlins.
Sell off the drivetrain.
Drop in a LS7 (Yes a conversion kit is coming very soon).
Add a gt3 front bumper and supercup wing.

That is 20+k in mods, but the car at 30k ish would out lap a stock z06 that is twice the price.

I love this car but as WanganRunner said these cars are a royal PITA to work on, so it most likely will go.

I agree it needs a wing but I take the car well over 135 on the hwy frequently and I think it would kill my top end. If I decide to turn this into a track car supercup wing here I come!!!

I recently stumbled across a 911 vert with 110k miles thats selling for way under $20k. Initially i thought it was a good deal until I looked up KBB and Edmunds' estimates. Even then, KBB and Edmunds' varied heavily between the two. I also did some research on car classified sites (autotrader, cars, CL), but I'm a bit hesitant to go by what other people are selling them for, simply due to the fact that they could be listed too high and not selling.
I haven't looked at 996 prices in awhile, but usually for 996's cheapest to most expensive goes like this:

vert auto
vert 6spd
coupe auto
coupe 6spd

You also have other variables like facelift, C4 and C4S.

Thanks man, yeah like I said I agree with you 110%, these are a bitch to work on and probably will be why I sell in the end. Even jacking the car up to put on jack stands is a project. Mainly because it's a rear engine car, and I am pretty low. The car folded my aluminum harbor freight jack, that was fun!

Been running the supercup ride height which is pretty low for 6+ months now. These last 4 days I didn't drive it because we got 2 feet of snow, but the roads are clear now and it's back terrorizing the new england winter streets.

I should paint my 951 that orange and be rich enough to get those wheels hahah.

And oddly and scary enough, my 951 is running great... with no problems. They all just seem to stop after one almost meltdown with the coolant.

Almost new exhaust time. 2.5 all the way back or 3 inch piping?

cause they were made out of lightweightium.... it's this stuff where you buy a really nice looking wheel.. spend lots of money.. get a lightweight show only wheel.... then you drop a wheel on a corner exit and it cracksor bends.. causing a sudden deflation.. multiple people had cracked wheels.. I think they had like 9 or 10 flats in one track day on HRE's... keep in mind these are vipers running slicks...

Guys, just saw this and wanted to clear up some misinformation. Please read the below reply that was written to address "the issue" on the Audi forum back in 2005.

In a post made in AudiWorld.com on June 5, 2005, a number of accusations were made regarding HRE’s products. The content of this original thread has been posted on a number of forums and raised questions regarding the use of our wheels in race conditions, the overall quality of our products and the integrity of our company. Also included in these posts was the statement that HRE wheels are banned from VRL, PCA and IMSA and included photos of a broken wheel that is NOT an HRE wheel. When this thread surfaced, HRE took it very seriously and after considerable investigation into the alleged failures and contacting these organizations regarding the supposed bans, HRE learned that this information was false. If anyone would like further information regarding this issue or if anyone has any concerns about the race worthiness or quality of their HRE wheels, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. As chief engineer for HRE I am intimately aware of the technical issues surrounding the design and construction of our wheels and the challenges posed by racing and street use. I will address each and every one of your concerns personally.

Sincerely,

Alan Peltier

I personally have only seen one HRE wheel cracked at a track day. I would suggest doing some online face cleaning. If you type in "hre wheels banned" into google you get nothing but an entire page of people clinging to this ban. If it is true that the wheel was a fake then this kind of information can only help you.

Nah just teasing Haven't been in a GT3 RS, but a GT3, and it was one fun car. All day reliable as well. In the same breath though, I found the cushy 997 Turbo to be more to my style. I could only imagine a GT2.

Sorry no updates really, just driving it and having fun. I did pick up a set of used GT3 side skirts on the cheap though. The best part is they are already painted Artic Silver.

Still need to pickup the mounting clips and screws before I can do the install.

Wheels should arrive in a week or so.....

Nice car. Don't listen to all the kids on here saying to flip it and get a "better" car. You can't do much better for $20k. Sure you could get a highly modded S-chassis car or WRX or something, but none of those are the total package that the Porsche is. Most of these kids wouldn't know a real sports car if it bit them in the ass.

I vote for a nice rear wing as well, I think the 911's look naked without a wing. I used to have a 996, still regret getting rid of it.

Are 996s worth significantly more than KBB and Edmunds TMV estimates?

I recently stumbled across a 911 vert with 110k miles thats selling for way under $20k. Initially i thought it was a good deal until I looked up KBB and Edmunds' estimates. Even then, KBB and Edmunds' varied heavily between the two. I also did some research on car classified sites (autotrader, cars, CL), but I'm a bit hesitant to go by what other people are selling them for, simply due to the fact that they could be listed too high and not selling.
