built sr20det making a knocking noise at 2-3k rpms.

whatsup everyone. i got my sr20det built less then 2k miles ago. i drove it easy for the first 500 miles. (i mean easy as in not shifting over 3,000 rpms and not seeing any boost) then changed the oil and drove it easy for at least another 400 miles then started boosting it little by little. the cars seen few full throttle pulls (its not tuned yet) and has been driven good in my opinion.

i always heard a noise around 3,000 rpms and didn't think much of it.. it kinda sounded like a loose screw vibrating on my valve cover. today i was a block away from home and at 3,000 rpms the noise was louder and didn't sound to good. i don't know what it is and havent driven my car. i took a video quick of how it sounds but it was dark so theres no light (you only need ears to hear it anyways)

anyone have any ideas what it can be? i know it can range from something like the timing chain all teh way to a rod knock =x

Hmm...thats weird, have you tried revving it pass where you actually hear the knock? Usually, for rod knocks, you hear it distinct at a certain RPM and then kinda goes away when you go higher that the "sweet spot".

or do you think that little noise that i always heard around 3,000 rpms could of been a rod knock and now its on its gotten worse to the point now where its actually doing damage?

What was done to the engine exactly and what mods do you have on it? Also, do you have an oil pressure gauge and was the oil pump changed during the rebuild?

yeah i have an oil pressure gauge. the car had a full build.. motor was sent to machine shop and it got pistons rods bearings valves springs retainers rocker arms cams rocker arm stoppers.

its running a gt2871r at 14lbs right now. i went to get the car tuned like 600 miles after break in. on the dyno it was breaking up at 5500rpms in 3rd gear so we couldn't finish tuning it. we changed the plugs and it was good. the car was supposed to be tuned next monday =/

Actually, it sounds more like the chain is tapping something...do you still have the chain cover plate on top of the head? Chain could be slapping on that if its still there....

i had the same problem/noise and it was a rod knock between 2-3 rpm best thing you can do is drain your oil and check for brass metal shavings good luck

Drain your oil and check to see if there is any brass shavings, also what kind of oil are you running and what motor do you have?

Sounds like timing chain tensioner and/or guides. Doesn't sound like rod knock to me.
