What lesson is to be learned about being excited that the game is going to receive many updates and added downloadable content?

Obviously YOU are clueless.

Which is why I'm sticking with my concervative date og Holiday Season 08.

I'm pretty good with making educated guesses when it comes to the game industry.

I made a $100 bet with my uncle Wii would surpass 360 worldwide by September.

The problem with console racing games (and to some extent PC racing sims) there is always going to be kids or adults playing online who really don't care about the race. These are the people who go flying into corners without using the brakes and use other players in the game as a wall. It has happened in every console racing game I have played.

PC racing sims are a little better, because the population is usually a little older, the game has a much higher learning curve, and most people are much more courteous.

I liked Project Gotham Racing 3 (still my favorite console online racing game) because they had the option to turn off collisions in online mode. Took away some of the realism, but if you were going to race in a public game it was a good thing because of all the noobs ramming into you at any given time.

dude. does anyone else HATE the drifting mode?

(in comparison to the prologue)

i seriously loved the way the cars handled while drifting in the prologue. (after the latest update that is)

the drifting mode seriously feels like some stupid arcade game. someone PLEASE tell me if im doing something wrong.

i have all driving aids off. please tell me theres like something in the options that changes the driving feel. (like the standard vs professional modes in the prologue)

i was largely disappointed by that. hopefully an update will straighten that out(?)

I haven't played in "drift" mode that much, but from what I can remember, the car doesn't drive differently, dunno.

I also just drift in the "normal" mode.

Have any of you guys done the AMG Nurburgring special races?

I'm on the level 16 races which are all in the wet. Under the little race descriptions it said something like, "The surface of the road is worn smooth by cars passing over it every day, which makes the area around the ideal line very slippery. The answer to this is to try to take a middle-middle-middle line throughout".

When you get into the race, you can actually see the racing lines "grooved" into the wet pavement.

That's the kind of shit that makes GT awesome and which also makes me think the game was SOMEHOW still rushed, even after 6 years.

Wow that's awesome.
Also, on Kaz Yamauchi's twitter he said the next update (early December) mechanical damages will be implemented.

Woot!

Btw, I use Comfort Soft on most of my cars, sometimes Sports Hard, and use Sports Hard/Medium on cars like my Ferrari California which has more horsepower.

It's amazing what better tires can do for your car...

I bought sporting soft and my laptimes dropped 6(!) seconds in just one lap in the first try. The car was just utterly transformed.

I have been cheap by not buying better tires but no more, I am now a firm believer.

ive been drifting in the practice section of GT mode. using the full track drifting.

im am utterly displeased by the characteristics of the car while drifting. response to the ebrake is totally unrealistic. the car understeers while drifting. it resembles that of awd drift. on occasion the you must turn in while still maintaining a drift. and on top of that you still get points for it.

The prologue on the other hand "wasnt havin that shit". at any hint of understeer, the points would stop racking up.

transitioning and initiating are crap. countersteering is not even necessary right away. you can initiate and wait for a minute until the car is pointed in the direction, which could be a good second. after initiation the car continues to rotate into the corner without any steering input (you can literally see that the wheels are not even turned in the replays) whereas to the prologe immediately after initiation or transition, countersteer was necessary. just as you would need to in an actual drift.

and the same goes at the other extreme. at an insane angle during entry, i can still recover the drift/line. i can do stupid backward entries and not even spin. its like theres an AID on the drifting that prevents spinning out. all this would be cool if it looked and felt real.

I am also disappointed in the loss of the steering angle adjustment. this was crucial for drifting in the prologue.

Dont get me wrong, this is an awesome game. If i can find a way, ill get my replays posted up here from drifting in both the prologue and full version.

A proper drift can be done, but it doesnt feel proper while driving. The replay though is a different story. The realistic smoke and patch laid on the tar is awesome but I would gladly give that up for more realistic driving feel.

though before anyone gives me shit, i would like to note that in the prologue drifting, ive placed within the top 100 ranks. My highest ranking was 8(about 3months ago, mightve changed by now).
i used many different cars(mostly 350z), drifted with all tires (n1-3/s1-3).

i will try to get my replays up from both later tonight.

is there anyone else utterly displeased with this? i know there has to be some super hardcore GT5prologue drifters.

i use a controller and a G25

oh yea, to prevent confusion, there isnt a drift "setting" and the car grips the same way, its just when the car begins to slip that the characteristics differ from that of the prologue. thats what i dont like lol

Ok, as much as I love this game, the one thing that I hate about the whole GT series is the stupid ass cars that they put in the game.

I have cleared every test I've done so far with Gold, haven't had too many problems, took me maybe 5 tries at most. I got silver on the Top Gear test track's stupid ass VW Van race. I could not get above third for the life of me, took me nearly 3 hours of restarts to get it. I should not be racing a VW Van, this is a racing game, I want sports cars.

I believe they make you drive the slow ass VDub van so that the player can learn the Top Gear test track properly.

i was thinking this in bed, remember when i posted about F1 2010? i bought that game when it came out, played for a week, then havent picked it up since, people still hoping it gets better with updates but codemasters seems to have moved onto other games already... with GT5 you get alot of bang for your buck..
