Just because a car doesn't have lots of power doesn't mean it is slow unless you are talking about straight line performance.

Straight line, power, the Miata lacks it stock. Passing on the freeway is impossible without dropping a gear, and even then it's not very peppy, you just slowly, and I mean slowly see it rise (60 mph and up)...

Turbo, supercharger, and even tuned ITB or carbs will do the trick, even though I have a turbo, I'd rather prefer ITB due to the linear powerband (not to mention the sound... Mmmm...)

"your gay"? I didn't know gayness was something you can take possession of.

Three things to make this world better:

1. Learn grammar.
2. Learn how to resize pictures of your car proportionally so you don't look like a tool.
3. Learn that just because you think you are faster than Civic doesn't mean you are. I'll could kill you all day long in touge with my FF drifts with my 74hp mouse.

Kids...

Im not here to pick on spelling- you abviously arent too bright anyhow. Why dont you, your 4 posts and your FF Mouse use a little brain power before posting on this board or youll get flamed to hell, which doesnt count if its coming from someone with 4 posts, by the way.

1. could you two please stop flirting?

2. It's been established that the miata's weak points are a) acceleration and b) storage space.

problem a is solved by the greddy turbo kit. with some suspension mods and good tires that car will be the ultimate track car. i've seen a turbo miata at the track and they're the shit, hands down.

problem b cannot really be solved but the potential buyer (sorry, forgot your name) already said he didn't really care.

for those of you who think miatas are "gay" or "chick cars," wait until this thing hands you your ass at the track and then see who looks like the bitch. i'd take a turbo miata over my s13 in a second.

I don't have many friends that I need to haul around, but I do know a couple guys with trucks, should I need them.
Honestly, the most storage I'll ever need is for when I go home on the weekends or when I get groceries. All of these easily fits in the back seat of my fastback, with lots of room to spare. The fastback is pretty good at hauling lots of stuff around though.

I really appreciate all of the serious input. The nest step is to test drive one and if I can live with it, I'll get one and a turbo kit with FMIC. I'll miss the 240sx though. Miatas don't really live up to my style, but a convertible looks fun (and no S13 convertibles, please).

This is America, espeak espanish! Seriously, it's a FREE COUNTRY. He can use whatever word he likes. If you think it's ghey that's your opinion

Free country? Free country how? Does it not cost money to live here? Do we not pay taxes? I mean seriously, if you dont speak Japanese dont use Japanese words to describe "canyon." If you ARE Japanese then its good to remind yourself that you are on a US forum.

Personally, I dont care if people use the word canyon or touge, because to me I understand what he's talking about. The reason why using words like that is to keep idiots from over-using them. Touge, Kouki, RPS13, JDM, whatever.. just use them correctly.

thx247> Just because a car doesn't have lots of power doesn't mean it is slow unless you are talking about straight line performance.

Hey man, that car is FAST even though it does 0-60 in 10 minutes. Come on man, lets be realistic.. if a car does not accellerate it is not FAST. How many people say "wow this car brakes REALLY well, its a FAST car." Fast ALWAYS refers to how quick a car accellerates.

rbbaby> No can do, buddy. miata + FMII turbo kit > 240sx + sr20det.

Are we in math class? When you compare a car, dont be so plain in describing the pros and cons. While a turbo Miata is nice, a turbo 240SX is also nice. Both cars have their advantages. Its quite obvious the 240SX is a larger car and weighs more, but lets not forget the 240SX also has better highspeed stability than the Miata. Then again, larger cars like the Supra and Z have more stability than the 240SX. Then again, Murcielago has more high speed stability than both of those cars. So, whats the point? If you rate things, do it fairly.

Hahahah I drove a Miata a few times, fun car to drive. Just too small for my fatass. Everyone will think that you're gay, especially when you're driving with your homeboy, think about how that would look. Give me one for free and I'll take it, but I would rather keep the S13.

If you like the looks of the car...go for it. Personally I don't think they look agressive enough for my taste, but the newer ones with the different headlights are starting to look ok I guess. If it were me (set on a RWD convertible) I would save up some $$, sell your 240sx, and get an older BMW M series convertible or an early Z3, OR....swap an SR into a convertible S13+ silvia front end conversion.

Everyone will think that you're gay, especially when you're driving with your homeboy, think about how that would look.

If you wear tight shirts and go cruising for a bruisin down Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, yes I am sure people WILL think you are gay. But then again, you can be driving nothing and just walking down Santa Monica Blvd -- and people will STILL think you are gay.

Lets get a lill scenerio here bitches. Put Tupac and BIGGIE in a silver Miata bumpin "bury me a G" with over-fenders and some badassed old-school Watanabe's and tell me how GAY they look.

You guys are retarded....

I own both a relatively stock s14 and a bone stock 1990 miata and would have to say that the miata is much more nimble and fun to drive. I'm the type of person who could care less about what the hell people think...hell my miata is the o so common red color but who cares. Looks are subjective.

I got my miata for relatively cheap (1200 for a 1990 with 144k miles, stock vlsd and hardtop) and replacement and maintenance tends to be relatively inexpensive. Because it's still winter, you can probably find a lot of good deals out there. Also, it's the kind of car you can rag the hell out of and it comes back for more. Be careful of 1990 and early 1991 models as they sometimes have crankshaft issues.

On the flipside, I feel a lot less safe in the miata. It has that tin can on wheels kind of feeling that doesn't inspire much confidence when approaching triple digit speeds. Recently I was in an accident on the freeway in my miata and saw my life flash before me (car in front of me flipped 3 times).

I know you have an s13 but if I had a choice between my s14 and my miata I'd still choose the s14. Less nimble overall, but is safer, has more space to carry stuff (miata trunk has both the battery and the spare taking up a big chunk of the already scarce amount of space), build quality feels better, and still has excellent potential on the track. It's all a matter of money and ultimate goals with the car.

Good Miata resources:

Hmm well, on the track the car is fast. The fact that it has a stock torson diff, and a CARB legal turbo kit make the car decent. Anyway lol...since when was the 240 gods gift to cars lol. The thing is a piece except for the cost.

Whatever Old, I'm not going to argue with you about whats fast and whats not. I've seen stock S13's beat supras on the track before, so I guess that makes the supra slow like the miata.

Well I have a friend with a turbo miata, its a really nice ride, loud as hell, but really nice.

He drove my other friends SR'd Silvia, (miata has a little more power), and he loved it. But mainly becuase of the stiffness. 8/6 coils and Largus Sways compared to shocks and springs.

Even though he loved to mess with the car he still loves his miata and would never trade it for an S13. He is an autcrosser and a drifter and loves the car in both.

He has an S13 but its just to get him through winter.

To all those who think miatas are girls cars , it attracts girls to have a convertible "cute" car, and it can still hand you your ass on the track.

I say go for it, miatas are fun cars, only problem is you'll need rollbars on some tracks or events.

I was torn between the very same decisions. Miata with an add on turbo or S13 with the sr20det. I searched the Miata forums and was shocked how slow they were in the ¼ mile given the weight and HP to the wheels. It just seems that the car has a hard time putting any amount of hp to the ground. Not a huge shock really. On a roadcourse (which is really more my thing) they would not have this issue. Miata’s are just plan fast on the track no matter what the setting (especially autocrossing). The S13 has a lot of potential on the track as well. I wanted a car I could build up to challenge the M3’s and ZO6’s on the roadcourse. The S13 is better at this role due to the stronger engine and greater HP potential. In the end they are both great cars. I chose the S13 primarily due to its hardtop and greater size. I felt it was a safer car for the track and street. I know that sounds kinda lame but that’s what swayed me to the S13 in the end.

Has anybody noticed the irony of this situation.
This is popular perception not mine…..

Miata = Girly Car that real men don’t drive
240SX = Much more manly car.

240 Drivers = Afraid to drive Girly car/Miata for fear of getting hurt.

Haha, so true.
I just don't think much of miatas. I drove my uncles grey 92(?) and allthough it was certainly nimble, it just lacked in power. Since I don't drive on twisty little roads or tracks all the time.

My biggest advice to you would be to just consider the type of driving you do. If you autocross all the time and never need real power, go with the Miata. If not, stick with what you've got or get ready to turbo that little thing.

<don't take this the wrong way, I'm definatly not flaming you>

It could be said that this is a "girls car," but with that being said, it attracts them like honey does flies. I mean, don't get me wrong... It's nice and all, especially since I've spent all my life trying to attract women here and there, call it an incentive.

I'll accept the fact that some guys don't want this, it's okay, I understand. Some guys want cars that are attractive to other guys, if thats what anyone wants out of a car, thats their choice. But, being a fulltime student and working two jobs, I'm not in the position to buy a car to please anyone, but honestly, I can careless about what other people think, as long as I like it.

I too could care less what others think of my car. For reference I drive a 98 Sentra SE. Most people don't even know what it is, even fewer know that it has a SR20DE stock, Then I went all NA to get 190whp and people say "should have gone turbo", Now I have a 92 Coupe also and people keep calling me "Mr. JDM" "Drifter" etc". I don't care. The car has great balance, tons of potential and RWD. I am in heaven. Can't wait to get it really set up well and on the track. I buy cars for myself (well, I do tell my wife about it). Funny thing is, she wanted the 240 for safety as well.

Id rock a Miata. Of coarse, id have to swap a 13B into it. hehe jk.

But on teh subject of small rwd mazda convertibles, I thought an old convertible FC would be cool too. Minus the cons of the rotory engine. Heck, someones swapped an SR into an FC here in thr states.

If the car that you drive makes you gay then you got issues with your own manhood.

Thats like saying all 240 owners drift, all civic owners rice out thier cars, and all domestic owners drag race.
