New comp problems

well my gf has a dell comp, bought like last year. im not sure on the specs. but the thing runs like shit. it takes forever for a program to load. anything you do on that comp lags like shit. for starters i installed adware and cleaned most that stuff out, it helped a little. next i defraged it. its still runs slow as shit. even going on the net it lags, and its hooked up to dsl. right now im updating windows. right now its running norton antivirus, but im not a big fan of that program. im planning on installing macafee. there use to be like 5 different user accounts but now there are only 2. i dont want to format and start from scratch. what else could i do to help the system. is there anything other than reformating?

get a spy wear remover and see if that helps. but most likely its so fuked your going to have to fdisk it and just reformat it.In the end its the best thing to do.Just save whatever you need and trash the rest.BUT if you absolutely dont want to do that theres a program i use that gets rid of all junk files cleans your sys registry.And some other nifty lil tricks ill get back to you with the name

Update: Its called Ace utilities you can just search google for it.It will only be trial unless you buy it or get teh crack
