I had the same problem but it wasn't either of those stated. I started running rich and my ring lands were giving out, car would practically die with any throttle let off , and then sometimes it wouldn't want to even start. This wasnt an sr20 btw, but how rich are you running? Any chance you could be fuel washing your cylinders?
