ISIS RS3871 Turbo?

any one ever get one of these? it says
"Virtually identical to the Garrett GT2871R, just non-ball bearing"
and its like half the price. im still on my SR turbo, so im looking to upgrade, an never having had a ball bearing turbo ( i know people praise them ) but is it worth the extra $500? i assume the reliability of a garrett is probably better then the isis?
iv been buying allot of isis parts lately but something like a turbo im not so sure...
whats your opinion?

I don't think the issue is so much ball bearing or non-ball bearing, it's cheap vs. expensive. Tomei's new line up of turbos are all non-ball bearing, and I don't consider ball bearing to necessarily be superior to a non. I think a couple people on here have run ISIS turbos and had good performance for the money with them. Ken at enjuku racing is boss at customer service and they have a great reputation. ISIS doesn't have nearly the R&D that other higher priced companies like Garrett have, but hey, if it works well and it's half the price why not?

in a quality or dyno shoot out i'm pretty sure it's not going to be on par with the garrett. NO ONE is arguing that. none of the isis products were designed for that. isis products are decent pieces that are fractions of the cost than the leading name brands. BUT like it's been said, ken cares more about his customers then any other shop i've seen. will it work? yes. is it cheaper? yes. will you get the same power compared to 2871r? doubt it. if it shits the bed early or is a complete pile of shit will ken take care you? you bet your ass.

hmm i didnt know that about the tomei turbos. i always thought ball bearing turbos were supposed to spool up faster etc...
i drift not drag, so i dont really need to squeeze every HP i can get. its definitely going to be a large improvement over the stock turbo. my main concern is if it will blow like all those ebay turbos out there that people complain about. im a firm believer in the "you get what you pay for" motto. but i think im gonna have to give this a shot.
this way i can get injectors and a turbo for the price of a turbo. lol

fingers crossed.

I've heard good and bad a friend ran one on his Miata and it spooled great. There is a local drifter who has one on his ka-t set up and has had to replace it, but said Isis was great with getting him a replacement quickly. His name is vas570sx I believe on here

If you can't afford the Garrett, look into the Precision one. If you can't afford that, then save money for another week.
