I'd go with 2 or 3 10's. I nearly bought a box that holds 4 10's but the day I planned to go get them was Sept. 11th so I was'nt able to get it Oh well saved me money I don't need to spend.

It's more cost effective to go with one 10 or 12. Having 2 wont make your system any louder. 600 watts going to one sub will be just as loud as 300 watts going to 2 of the same sub. You'll hit the exact same dB.
So instead of spending $100 per sub on each sub, and getting just okay subs. Spend $200 and get a really good sub. There are plenty out there that can handle a lot of power and still sound good. How much power do you intend to have available for your subs? |

my 10's don't hit as low as they should, but i'm also missing 80 watts and i'm using the amps crappy crossover. i have 520 watts for bass. should be 600
i'd say 12's are better if you're getting cheap speakers. but if you want good sound quality speakers, 10's may be better. (Edited by whateverjames at 6:21 pm on Dec. 6, 2001) |

2 10s or one 12. I've got an alpine 12 inch and it's definately sweet, but I do hear it skip now and then on really fast jungle beats. Overall i'm really happy with it, but 10's would definately be faster.

All you really need is one 10 inch JL W6, powered by a RF 800 a2. That should give you the sound you need. Trust me, thats plenty. |

i understand your concern for a mix of clean sound and a good appearance. I suggest the 12" JL W3's...the subwoofers have combined the crisp sound of a W0 and the loud deep bass of the 6...so you can get the best of both worlds...also, one should suffice but if you do decide to get two...just use two different amps to power them...you may need another battery for one...
or you could get one and the money you save from not buying the other one could go to a alarm system this time... |

i say grab a small non-heist worthy 10 incher, and really really good components inside the car, nobody takes those, just get a bottom of the line simple looking Nakamichi head unit, it looks simple and most people dont know what it is and it will smoke most shit out of any other domestic unit (sony, kenwood, pioneer etc.)
play it safe dude, and if you get really good speaks you may not have an complaints... infinity has a 6.5 inch speak that is equivalent to a 8 inch sub in diameter and sound... hint hint |

i've always heard if you have one sub, it takes three more to be twice as loud, and that each sub adds about 3db. and a 9db increase = twice as loud.

bah you're right +3 is double. anyone know if the other statement is true or false? if you have one speaker it takes 3 more to double the sound?

nope thats not true either..... the addition of one speaker can double the output effectively giving that +3db its just he fact that u can't exactly hear the difference all the time.

I'm runnin Infinite Kappa 6.5" components up front, 4" Kappas in the back, and a 10" Sony sub runnin' on 150 watts. Sounds good enough for me. . . I'm not one who likes to share his music with everybody else on the street (and I tend to dislike those who do ). I do want to amp my components, but that can wait. I am content.
A lot of the speaker size comes down to the music you listen to. A 12 will give you deeper and louder bass than a 10, also better for drawn out beats. But, a 10 will hit the quick beats better. Like someone said earlier though, installation is everything. Do it right or the best system will sound like shit |

on the subject of stealth systems, dont certain manufacturers make subs designed to fit underneith the seats? i may be rockin' the rock here or somethin, but im pretty sure i remember reading about some subs which are specifically designed to fire out the side, and be low profile, looks sort of like a ufo with something coming out of the top, and sits right underneith your seats, where nobody can see them...anyone know anything about this?

Adding one sub will give you 3db, if you give it as much power as you gave the other one. The only other difference is that having more cone surface area will effect the way they sound, but wont make them louder. How loud your system gets depends entirely on your amp or amps (and the sensitivity, but thats not as important). That's how it works.
Why do people always look at me funny when I say I only have one sub? Perhaps because it goes louder than the average Best Buy installed 2 12 based system. |

the stealth boxes house like a 6 1/2 inch "deep excursion" woofer..... thats bogus no 6 1/2 inch speaker can REALLY amount to the bass of one good 10 inch that can be mounted in the wheel well... and the under-seat subs get muffled even firing out the side its going to get muffled........ they didnt last long cuz they were too expensive..... and Clarion had that UFO looking thing

I've worked in car stereo for 5 years. I've done everything from fiberglassing to molding. I have an S14. I originally had two twelves with an V12 amp. It sounded sweet not to mention what it looked like. It was painted fiberglass to match the car. I recently just sold all of my old stuff and installed Two POLK DX 12s. With a 1200w Kenwood 401m. Instead of going with the crazy look I built two boxes that fit in each corner of the rear fenders in the trunk, with my amp located where my spare tire is. Everything is blended in.. I'm the process of getting a Digital Camara. So as soon as I do, I'll send you a pic. Go with really good twelves and a real nice amp or you going to kick yourself in the ass. If you want the best possible sound out of the speakers you buy. Then get the speaker box built to the speakers specs. If you do it right, you wont regret it.

hmm.... i dont think i will go with 1 12" cuz then it doesnt look as impressive... i am going for style, sound, and cost....
also i am sick of ppl saying their system sounds louder from outside cuz the 240sx holds in the sound so well..... unlike the hondas..... u cant mix sizes of the subs right? cuz then they wont sound right? i might get 2 12"s |
![]() |

Thats right, You CAN'T mix different sub sizes because they have different response times. Result: horrible sound. You could put one twelve where the spare tire is. It will require some time and skill, but can be done. I don't know how much you want to spend. Tell me and I'll try to help you out.
