SR20DET Manuel Transmission Repair Opitions

I just wanted to open up this thread to hear what most SR guys do when it comes to transmission repairs to the bell housing. I was thinking since I am doing a full rebuild, I should spend the extra money to get my transmission in perfect order (gears & bearing). Any information would be helpful.

Most of us just use the OEM one as it came. My motorset came with an SR tranny. I installed the motorset and found out the tranny was a no go. So I took it out and swapped bellhousings with the KA one from the old motor.
KA trannys are relatively cheap and easy to find, so I don't really see a reason to go rebuilding it. I'm not sure how expensive it can be, but I suppose you could go that route and get it done.

FYI: I did an OEM rebuild as well for reliability, Replacing the tranny/bellhousing will only take a day if it were to crap out on you. I also daily this car.

So the KA tranny is compatible with the S14 SR? I never knew that. I was also told by another friend consider going 350Z. Yeah I got a quote in Houston for $680 on the repair of the stock SR bell housing.

Well I guess you'll have to double check with the s14sr, I have the s13SR. My Ka tranny bellhousing fit on my SR tranny and bolted up fine to the motor. I would imagine it would work for your motor also though since most of it is the same. Double check though.

This has been covered countless times. The SR transmissions are weak and will reach a breaking point. Depending on the power level you intend to reach, I suggest looking into alternative transmission with the search button above. The KA trans is identical to the S13 Sr trans minus the bell housing, which can be swapped. Common upgrades are the Z32 5spd and as of late the Z33 6spd.

Details of the "bell housing repair" could possibly shed more light on this "subject".
Please use the search feature, it'll serve you well.

A used SR20 Manual transmission is $150-$250 in the USA / Ebay. It is usually cheaper just to buy another used OEM trans than to attempt a rebuild.

Lmao exactly what I was thinking, give me your address so I can come give you a high-five.

OP - While you're at it, hit up Jose to help with your radiator & heater hoses for your SR swap and also hook you up with some great hose clamps.
