Tomei M7960 vs Gt2871r

Any one have this tomei turbo on Sr20?
Has any one tried out both 7960 and 2871r?

Which is better, and which would you prefer?
This has nothing to do with the price difference, just the overall performance and power gains.

Please ONLY POST if you have owned these turbos on you're Sr, and or have had personal experience with both.

I think you need to be a little more specific about the 2871R in terms of trim, housing etc. I have both turbos currently.

IMO:
The M7960 is a "good turbo on paper" but does not have the edge compared to a ball bearing 2871R even in the GT compact housing scenario. Personally speaking I've encountered some small problems (that are fixable) with my M7960. Ultimately I went back to the 2871R setup I had (.64A/R .56trim with T04E compressor housing.

Sorry, I didn't clarify it.

I meant the smaller version 2871r, 0.64 A/R

The M7960 is a TD06 sl2 20g in a 8cm housing.
The 20g will out flow it but its not ball bearing. It is rebuildable though.
If I was to go with a 20g though the Tomei one is not what I would go with. For one its overpriced do to the Tomei name. Get one with a larger compressor cover.

Really, are you sure it's not a TD05-20G or possibly a T518z? I wonder how it compares to the Greddy T518z BTW? Also, I believe the GT2871r you guys are talking about is the same as the HKS GT-RS turbine, and it seems that, at least in Japan, the Greddy T518z is more popular than the HKS GT-RS. They also seem to be making higher hp figures but I'm not sure.

TD05h is a 12 blade wheel thats 49.2 mm / 56mm
The M7960 turbine is 11 blade 54.1 mm / 61mm TD06 SL2

The Greddy is just another over priced MHI CHRA (18G ) in a 8cm T2 turbine housing.

BTW if the M7960 really is a TD06-20g, then that's great. You honestly can't go wrong with either GT2871r or M7960, but the M7960 has one huge advantage. It's rebuild-able, so it will last virtually forever, where as with the GT2871r you would have to buy a new turbo basically. Either way though, they are both great choices. I think I would go with the M7960 personally. If you look at the old Tomei Arms turbos they were made by Garrett and were identical to the GT2871r. They had the .64 a/r and the .86 a/r. They were called the B7652 and B8446. Now they have these ones, which are supposedly "better" according to Tomei's R&D, so I can't argue with that.

M8270 is a TD06H turbine and a 60-1 compressor.
