Yeah, there's lots of threads on here about it. Basically, the law is you CAN swap in an engine, as long as its from the same class of car (car to car, truck to truck), and you use the trans thats meant for that engine, AND you have all emissions equipment functioning (cats, EGR, etc). There's some on here who put an LS3 in a 240, with the goal of passing the REF inspection (the person that inspects your swap and makes it legal. Without seeing this person, your swap is illegal, even if it passes smog). He got 99% there, but because he used the non-stock Fuel Pressure Regulator, he failed. It was a GM part, just the wrong GM part. It can be done, it just takes some extra work. That said, using an engine like an RB or SR, is illegal, because they weren't sold here. But in CA, you're more likely to be caught. |
