Also be sure to measure your piston to valve clearance during assembly since you're running the DET pistons, don't ever just trust someone else's "it works" |

when i measured the block compared to a new VVL oil pump front cover i had to deck .011 off the pump .. the mazworx spec sheet stated they decked appx .003 from the head. total deck is .014-.015"
ugghhh maybe I should just pull down the fully ported 90mm hemispherical 1/2 head stud VVL mazwox head I have chilling on the shelf in the garage... then buy some kelford 184 st and a stage 4 mazworx SB and be done with it. Last edited by gt3071r240; 02-10-2018 at 05:13 PM.. |

So each oil pump is different so not a proper measure of decking.
I would go off Mazworx. 0.03" = roughly 0.8mm. Check the FSM for limit to decking. I guess you are running the 1.8mm to make up the difference. According to FSM Quote:

The Sr20/Sr22vet thread
Those are some awesome figures man !
Quick question with regards to rev limits on the ve head My tuner is saying 8 k rpm is a realistic limit , I was just wondering if this was correct ? I have supertech valves , guides and seals , supertech springs and retainers ,custom cams with greddy pulleys ) naprec timing chain ,it’s been port matched and combustion chambers been CNC machined also I’m running cdi ignition , 36-1 custom trigger disc on the ati super damper for primary trigger sensor Bottom end is Darton sleeved and bored to 90mm with Carrillo pistons and Carrillo rods ,1/2” studs etc Running a full race twin scroll twin gate set up with an efr7670 1.05ar What do you guys think ? end of the day I want a reliable motor Sent from Big Bear Kustoms Ltd Last edited by peglio; 02-11-2018 at 04:52 AM.. |

Yeah was gonna say even 8500 is conservative for what you listed.

Cheers guys . I was hoping for around 8.5-9k and that’s honestly where I thought I would be at with the parts I have accumulated for this ! So good to know that’s where I should be aiming for .
I thought it was a bit conservative but maybe he was just playing it safe |

I rev my SR22vet to 9500rpm without issue.
And this is my dyno chart from this summer. SR22vet efr7670 and n1 cams at 22psi https://photos.app.goo.gl/6l2x4SHKNJ3bMxAO2 |

Nice man ! How do you find the 7670 ? Looks a good match for these engines? Which size do you have ? |

Yeah man I have seen some good figures for the internal gate set ups ! I have the 1.05 ar with twin external gates so will be interesting to see what it can do ! Probably won’t be quite as responsive but still think it should work pretty well . |

Peglio, I think the problem is keeping piston speeds in check. Trying to find some sources but I believe it is best to stay under 5000 feet per minute mean piston speed for reliability, all production cars and even F1 cars (ones I could find on google anyway) are not over 5000fpm by much. With your 91mm stroker that would be around 8.5k, that isn't to say it wont rev higher with out insta-exploding or making more power, but theoretically keeping it under 8.5k rpm is best for keeping it all together long term.
Whereabouts are you based? I have a P11 head and the same turbo, am looking at bottom end options, so very interested in hearing your results with that setup. Would love to have a chat about who did your sleeving etc. and ideally have a poke around the car at some point too if you were ok with that. |

@Finkmonk got to motoiq and look up one of the project se-r's. They built a Na Ve with h22 rods and a custom je piston that you can ask for to keep the piston speeds down.

Hey bud Sorry I only just spotted this been mental with other builds at work not had time to do much Yeah I would have to say that does make sense and I did ask him again he said a safe / reliable level would be around 8500 if I intend on using the car a lot ( which I do ) I’m near Warwick buddy ..that’s cool , there aren’t many doing these builds over here , I think the engine should be built this month / start of next month at the latest so going to crack on with the bodywork Yeah man be cool to have a chat etc I own big Bear Kustoms if you have heard of us ? When the car is done will be having an open day at the unit with the car so more than welcome to pop down grab some food meet some other car guys and have a proper look over the car dude [emoji1598][emoji1598] Sent from Big Bear Kustoms Ltd |

P12 cas
Hey guys I have a question about the P12 CAS fitment on an S13. I got my motor from Mazworx and will be dropping it in the bay in a few days. I've read that I may have to bang in the firewall around where the CAS sits so it can clear and also depends on the engine mounts, It will be sitting on Nismo mounts. Before I spray the bay with primer and paint I would like to know if I indeed need to bang in the firewall for clearance.
Any help would be appreciated, Thank you. ![]()

This thread has been very valuable, thanks to all who have contributed. I signed up just to get involved.
I'm currently building a motor for a circuit/time attack style car and tossing up between VE head options. Absolute max power would be 400rwkw (going for PB's/Wins/laps with mates etc) but for longevity I will happily run it at 300-350, know it can do it very easily and not have to worry about head reliability at revs. I'm having a hard time choosing a head, both are available to me and I can afford either but I do like to get good bang for buck from mods and am not the type to go absolute best at all times for no good reason. The P11 head comes out a bit cheaper even after coilpack conversion, CAS and solenoid swaps etc, but the things I'm having a hard time deciding are which cams are best suited to this goal and if the smaller valve stems are an issue in the p12 head as I hadn't planned on changing anything in either head beyond springs and a mild clean up port. I will use a TS manifold and Ext gate whichi should help in response and top end flow respectively. Thoughts? |

Do P11 head
Keep the larger valve stems The stock P12 cams work extremely well actually. However if you are starting with a P11, spring for a set of 184 ST (or 184T). IN all honesty, if you are doing head work, it really doesnt matter which you start with. Valve seat if where the magic happens |
