Servicing your differential: Suggested rebuild kits
I'm in the process of building a 2-way differential and upgrading my final drive.
What are some good rebuild kits that you recommend? I know that some of the Z33 stuff is not applicable to our r200 diffs https://www.z1motorsports.com/rear-d...it-p-7015.html What are your recommendations?

After watching someone actually rebuild a diff. I have come to the realization that I make enough money not to do this myself. And since I know where you are in the tax bracket I suggest you take the same route. Because you do got to replace a lot of that shit to swap the final drive.

I agree to Omikron.... Also all the dial indicators and backlash checking and standings and stuff..... All that gear oil that stinks like hell that you will barely get off your hands, let alone clothes....
Professionals who do it also can get it wrong, so yeah just get someone reputable do it..... Its not an easy thing

The biggest issue is setting pinion depth. Unless you have a bearing reamed out to slide on and off, you have to press it on and off to set it right. This takes a lot of time and can damage the new bearing. It’s not overly complicated, but it is involved and there are various things to check/verify before buttoning it up.

I'm asking for part numbers or a vendor (maybe a black Friday special) where I can buy all the parts to have a lasting differential rebuild ![]()

Even paying someone else to do it, might as well get the best parts. Diff shops aren't going to be like normal mechanics who refuse customer parts, considering you're already bringing them your housing, carrier, and R&P.
Anyway the OEM parts are Diff Side Bearing (38440-N3110) (need 2) = NSK R45-11-A-SA U42, Koyo HC 57160LFT Side Shaft Oil Seals (38342-N3100) (need 2) Front Pinion Shaft Bearing (38120-13201 or 38140-V7000) = NSK 32306AN Rear Pinion Shaft Bearing (38120-61000 for '89-'96) = Koyo TR07081R, NTN HR32307CN / (38120-10V00 for kouki S14) = NSK R35-24 NU42 (This bearing is 38mm thick, the older variant is 32.75. some say the kouki inner bearing fits all) Pinion Shaft Oil Seal (38189-N3112) Rear Diff Housing Gasket (38320-40F02) You can probably find OEM grade non-Nissan equivalents to all of these if you search by each PN. From Nissan USA the bearings are silly expensive. I think the bearing equivalents I listed are correct but triple check. If you take apart your old unit yourself you should be able to find the supplier part numbers on the bearing outer races themselves. Last edited by AKADriver; 11-23-2022 at 11:11 AM.. |

So I built a cart using Nissanparts deal and the total came out to over $700... Doing it on Rockauto (National, SKF and Timken brand parts)came out to less than $250 shipped... But you know the whole saying, you get what you pay for I am tempted to go with NPD.

Some of the ones Rockauto has are definitely good (National/Timken) others I have no idea.
I would go with NSK, NTN, Koyo if possible. If you can order them from like partsouq or amayama in one big batch from UAE or Japan it might work out similar to rockauto and they're identical to Nissan OEM. Last edited by AKADriver; 11-23-2022 at 01:26 PM.. |
