![]() Hey team,
I'm looking at buying an S15 that has been manual swapped, but the cluster is still an automatic one with the gear indicator placed on the gauges. I know that will bother me, and I was wondering if any of you fine individuals have had any experience swapping a cluster (Nismo or otherwise) in and retaining the original mileage on the vehicle (I.E. not resetting to zero). Having discussed this with some folks much smarter than myself, I concluded that it is possible, but would like to hear about anyone's experience if they've tried this. Also may just be easier to put a manual face on that gauge -- haha. Thank you in advance.

Yes, two ways to do it. I haven't done either in an S15 cluster but I have done both in an NB Miata which was made by Yazaki Meter and is similar.
1. Swap the digital odometer unit from one cluster to the other. The digital odometer will be on its own small circuit board usually connected by a ribbon cable to the main cluster. This is probably the best option for you if you have both working clusters. In my Miata I did this to build a hybrid early/late NB cluster. 2. Reprogram the digital odometer unit. After I had the Miata clusters apart I figured I'd see if it was possible with an off the shelf EEPROM reader/writer. It is. It's apparently pretty standard, most clusters of that era use very similar EEPROMs and similar encoding for the mileage. Again I haven't done an S15 but if I had one in front of me I am certain I could figure it out and program any arbitrary mileage. |
