Have the car, ESPECIALLY the turbos, thoroughly inspected before you offer to sign any piece of paper. Also see if there is an extended warranty available, some of them you can pay a little extra and have the stock turbos covered under warranty. Another little thing about the Talon TSi--depending on what year it is, it may have a recall on the AWD transfer case. My bf used to have a 1992 Laser GSX (same exact thing as the Talon TSi and Eclipse GSX) and he had a recall on the transfer case, for a transfer case oil leak. There were also recalls issued on the O2 sensor, and the camshaft timing belt.
Go to www.alldata.com and select Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (the blue menu bar above the text) and choose the year of your car and go from there. It will list EVERY recall and technical service bulletin listed for your car.

You know it is funny that most of us started out loving some other car and as you got smarter about cars and how much money you can spare you realized that there was a great car all the way at the bottom of the money ladder.
I started out wanting a Honda Prelud (yes I said it a HONDA Prelude), but after a while I just began to dislike the car and then went to an Acura Integra GSR. I then realized I wanted a car before High School was over and my parents were not going to buy me a car. So I kept decreasing the price and wanted an Eclipse GS-T or GSX, then went to an Eagle Talon, very cheap, then as I researched about them I kept hearing prblems about them. Then I went to an Old Supra and heard about the Head Gasket issure, then finally heard about this SR20DET (at the time I never heard of it). And here I am now awaiting to buy a Nissan 240SX, most likely will buy it in the Summer and start my Project. Sorry for rambling on, also note I do not have a car yet and did not ever own any of those other cars.

Zexel, a good friend of mine has a 92 TSI AWD in pretty good shape except the fact the engine is blown. He has spent the last two months waiting for a engine. He is going through a well respected import place around here to. There suppose to have something this week. Also he has some good links for part mods if you would like them. I happened to drive it before he blew up. He couldnt drive a stick and wanted to see what it could do. Let me tell you it took a good while for that stock turbo to spool up. Well me being that im a drift nut first thing I try is to drift.... well that didnt happen that well. So what could I do but hit the next corner going twice as fast. I dont know drifting tech with AWD but seems speed help a lot hehehe. Should have seen the look on his face. Could tell if he was smiling or that "OOO shit i just wet myself" look.
Well if you want the links just ask.

I'm wondering why no one has mentioned that the trannies are shit. Nice thing about Nissan's is that the trannies are bulletproof. I'd elaborate more and will if someone wants me to, but I gota go now.

i really wanted a ts1 too, but fate feared it's sometimes ugly head and dissuaded me.
a very good friend of mine just got a 93 tsi with 110km, they are very very fast... sure they have problems but what domestic doesnt... it is one of the only domestics i would ever consider driving, they have a lots of potential and a good after market and you will smoking damn near any honda modded or not right of the bat... i say get one. the free installation sounds to good to be true... that'll save you alot of money |

umm, they're not domestic, at all. Mitsubishi GSX, GST, Eagle Talon TSi, TSi AWD, Chrysler Laser GSX (I think)... They all have the same engine. It's a detuned version of the japenese Mitsubishi EVO engine, the 4G63. The tranny problems come into play because when an AWD car launches, the tires hardly spin. This means that all of the torque that would usually make the tires spin on high powered FWD or RWD cars, is stressing the tranny on AWD cars. Subaru Impeza (including WRX), 3000GT VR-4, and other DSM's all have a reputation for having weak trannies. The thing is, I can't think of a single tranny on an AWD turbo car that had a good reputation, wait now I can, Skyline. Nissan tranny's rule. The truth is, AWD cars eat driveline parts for breakfast. Clutches, diffs, tranny's, etc. I would rather have a slightly slower car than have to replace a tranny every 30,000 or so on a 400hp dsm.
Here's a short list of driveline modifications made to an 11 sec GSX: SS Braided Clutch Line Short-Throw Shifter BG Syncro Shift Transaxle Fluid ACT 2600 Clutch Symborski Shifter Kit Clutch Restrictor removed Built Tranny: Steel EVO shift forks Four Spider Center Differential Double Syncro 2nd gear upgraded 3-4 shaft with a stronger Hub and Sleeve |
