my car is acting wierd in the heat..

summer is here and the heat is making my car act stupid.

when I leave my car in the hot sun for a while, or shade for that matter too, I have to turn the keyon my ignition at least 5 times before it turns over. it starts fine after it turns over. the way I know its the heat is because at night when its cool outsuide it turns right over on the first try. also when I park in the garage where its not that terribly hot it starts easier like on the second time usually.

I have no clue what to do. I didn't see anyone else having this problem on here when I searched for it.

any advice would be great. thanks!

I doubt it would be the fuel pump. its something to do with the starter or ignition or whatever else is involved with getting the thing to turn over.

Sounds like the starter is becoming heat soaked. This causes alot of electrical resistance that an old starter may not be able to over come.

I have the exact same problem. I thought it was the starter then I swapped my KA for an SR and I still have the exact same issue.

I had a similar problem with my old Acura GSR and it ended up being the "main relay". The shop I was working with at the time explained that when the inside of the relay expands and contracts due to temp change it causes connection cracks/breaks. When it is cold (expands) it touches when it is hot (contracts) it doesn’t make a good connection causing intermittent problems.

do yourself a favor before you start tearing your starter off and ish..

i had a similar problem although it wasnt because of heat. eventually my car just wouldnt turn over anymore... it turned out to be corrosion on my positive battery terminal. make sure the metal contact on the + cable is shiny (use a file or something) as well as the terminal on the battery (wire brush).

if you already did this, then disregard my post. good luck.

same problem

I, too, am having this trouble--almost exactly. I can sometimes get one key to work by fooling with it a while. It's really pi$$ing me off.
Someone said something about a main relay...how is that fixed/changed?
Any other suggestions??
Thanks!

well I havent polished my battery terminal, but its on tight with hardly any corosion, and I changed my starter (150 down the tube) and its still doing it. it seems like its not as bad, but it still does it in the extreme heat. like in the middle of the day when its 103 degrees outside...

anyone else have an idea for what is causing this? its annoying as hell.

Mabey you should check the wires going into your starter to see if their corroded.. just a thought. Also check your grounds And make sure they are all still connected and not corroded.
