gear oil ?
hey fellas, i was just curious about what was easiest for all of you. I really need to change the gear oil in my sr tranny, shifts are not the greatest, i heard redline is where its at, all maybe royal purple works well i dont no, how ahve you all gone about filling it, the first time i did it there was a bolt on the side of the tranny that i took off and i made a ghetto hose that ran down threw the engine bay and made it to the hole and jus poured the gear oil threw the line and filled it that way, but that was way too much trouble, now i hear removing the shifter might be easier, help me out guys.
thanks chris

when i had to add oil (leaks) to my tranny and didnt feel like putting it up on a lift i jsut took off those 4 10s around the shifter nad slowly pour oil on the shifter... it seeps right around the shifter jsut make sure you dont do it too fast.
seems easyest to me |

Maybe make the front of the car lower too to make it go down faster

I go under the car, undo the drain plug, let the fluid drain, screw back the drain plug, undo the fill plug, chug one of the quarts, stick my finger down my throat and quickly seal my lips around the fill plug, regurgitate the fluid into the tranny, and redo the process for the remainding 2 3/4 quarts. Its alot faster once you get good at it. But if you dont like throwing up, fill it up by the shifter.

I just got a gallon of gear oil and bought a pump and ppumped it with the car on jack stands. You dont have to take apart your interior and you dont risk spilling that shit inside your car (the death)

Thats is the correct way to fill it but either way would work. I also seconds on the Redline oils, they are the best for the Nissan Transmissions, all the Z guys swear by it.
