Megan Racing Japan website
I've googled this and searched here, and I'm not able to find the japanese website for Megan Racing. Is this a Japanese company? I've visited their website, but I saw no links to a Japanese site, nor found anything on there saying their parts are even made in Japan.

No they don't have a Jap site.
Yes they're an American company. More than likely none of their parts are JDM mad tyte yo! They are bought from the same places most everything else for our cars are made.. China/Taiwan/Indonesia etc.. |

There a Taiwanese coilover. Its says it right on the box/coilover. If you want the Japanese version, you can pay an extra $300-400 and get the Apex'i N1 ExV coilovers. Don't know if you'll find them on the japanese site though.

Many aftermarket parts are made in the same factory in Taiwan. Megan Racing products are made in some of the same factory as high end Japanese brands such as Apex'i.
Everything is outsourced now to reduce production costs. |

lol no i have MR coilovers too...awesome, especially for what i paid for them.
MR outsources pretty much all of their stuff from various places, so their parts are really hit or miss. Their coilovers are a pretty good bet, but on the other hand, some of their other things like exhausts i believe are a severe miss (hangs low to the ground, sounds like poo)

I was just curious if the parts were made in Japan because I've seen box pictures that look like they have Kanji writing, but I'd always thought Megan Racing was not a Japanese company.
I'm not one to exclusively buy from Japanese brands. I'll buy a part as long as it is long lasting, has good quality and durability. And I've seen more data on coilovers from other companies (Japanese, European, American), I'm just trying to get more info on Megan Racing.

Megan is not a Japanese company. They claim that the springs are made with Japanese steel and they print Kanji on the box to try to fool people into believing that they're JDM but they're not. Still excellent coilovers though.

yeah, all ford cars that rule (minus the GT) are overseas.
ford should really bring some cooler cars here....i might actually ALMOST want one. btw, i have MR coils, and i have no complaints. i've had zero problems from them, unlike my buddy's KTS...but i truly think he got the only defective front coilover that came out of SPL's shipments... |

Like all things you get what you paid for. A $1,000 coilover will never out perform $2,000 version even with the same spring rate. The key is finding out what you "need" a beginner car wouldn't need a top of the line coilover even good shock and lowering spring would do. Our old yellow s13 had Tein HE with spring rate of 8/6 then we got the Kg/mm DNA from 5Zigen with the exact same spring rate. Both on softest setting, the Kg/mm was much more smoother ride then Tein and at the track everyone like the new Kg/mm. There are reasons why kg/mm retails for $600 more tein, it's not just the name, but actual better shock and engineering. Suggestion? start with something entry then as your skill past your car level then upgrade. Cheers, Sam

the way i see it, is that, the time period that you keep your coilovers should justify the price you paid. I bought megan racing coilovers at 750 shipped. This is cheap as hell. I knew not to expect anything amazing, because i knew within 3 years, i would not have them anymore.
The next coilovers i will get, if they are not out-done in their price range by another, is the Tanabe Sustec DD. This has been decided before i even bought my Megan Racing coilovers. My rule of thumb is, if you can afford top of the line, and you want top of the line, GET top of the line. It is stupid to go cheap if you dont have to. For me, i wanted coilovers because i wanted to get into the drifting thing soon. I couldnt afford to wait for the Tanabe DD's...too much money, and being an 18 yr old college kid, i just didnt have the means of getting it within a reasonable amount of time. The Megans were a one time deal, so i went for it. the choice is ultimately yours though. Get what you want and just make sure you're happy with what you buy

valving is everything when it comes to ride quality on coilovers.
sam has a good point. however, i have to say, after riding on my friend's HE, my other buddy's KTS, and my MR, i believe the KTS to have the smoothest/strongest valving. SpdElemts, my friend's KTS have had an issue w/ the front pass. shock adj. knob not turning by hand since he got them. however, instead of being smart and calling kuah at SPL, and getting a replacement knob/parts, he opted to go ahead and put them on. he adjusted the knob w/ pliers up until about a month ago. then the knob came off, and then he sold them to my buddy who had the HE. i honestly think it was just something small, and could've easily been repaired, but since brandon doesn't have the coils anymore, and jesse does...i'm pretty sure jesse will take the time to get ahold of kuah and fix the problem. |
