confused on coilover decision

i don't kno what to get... should i get teins? cusco? nismo? i'm focused on those 3 right now. just want to know some people that have experience on those 3 companies. any other recommendations are fine too. i just don't want to buy something that i'll regret buying cause it's cheap. this car is in the progress of becoming a track only car so maybe that'll help in helping me decide on what to get.

Coilovers, as are car parts in general, are based on preference. Some have higher spring rates, others have better dampening, and some have the best of both worlds. Its really up to you what you want with your car, and how it handle.

And if you were to make it a totally Track-Only car, i highly doubt it'd be streetable. You probably wouldn't want to take it out on the streets because track setup/car setup is tuned to 'peak performance' for track.

All in all, everyone at entry-to-mid level love Megan Racing coilovers. Damn cheap, great quality.

BUY MINES!

Personally, for a track only car I'd go with Apexi N1 PRO. If the new models are like my N1 PRO, i'd go with some custom 9 or 10kg springs from swift out front that are 1" shorter in length, 7 or 8kg swift springs out back, and some swift helper springs out back to safely bring the ride height down. This would end up costing less than a set of zeals and kick just as much ass.

Hey HandSolo-dats, lemme test em out on your car

Im hoping to hear really good reviews on those DDrugs.

Oh, another thing, theres no real use to gettin Godly coilovers when you don't really understand whats going on with them, different settings n such, etc etc.

Zilvian SteppingStones: Cut/Torched springs & stock shocks, spring/shock combo (MAYBE a camberplate), coilovers w/ camberplates, coilovers w/ camberplates, external resevoirs, inverted design, JDMleetness, and helpersprings.

the best option of us is KTS. no other company has the support AND performance that SPL can provide.

if you dont know what to get you can't go wrong with KTS or megan.

Tanabe DDs. Mmmmm. Fuckyes. If Aaron's car was an S13 i would have stolen them already.

I have JIC FLT-A2s bought 3 years ago when JICs were still being imported. Now that they have US office it seems like Japan just shipped them all the defects. JIC USA=lametown. JIC JLand=Rock out with the cock out. I haven't had many probems and its been 3 years. I should start a savings fund for Apex N1 Pros, Tanabe DDs, or something good like that, since i've had my coilovers on my daily driven race car for longer than most people i know.

i would buy kts, silkroad, or tanabe dd

depending on how much money id have, those seem to be the best for each price point
anything cheaper lower end is gay/lame/loser style

i too am part of the 3 year jic 50k mile club (!) , i feel bad for telling so many people they rock over the years when in actuality the us-spec does suck

i Personally would go with Some G-Masters from GP sports and Espiler or the GR6's! G-masters are more track oriented, and the GR6s are a mixture of both. But i love how the GR6s have numbers on the perch to let u kno exactly how low u are goin and to set the other to the same number!!

Which tein, cusco, nismo coilovers? I'd say the cusco's for the bling factor. As for cheeper ones, I've seen people rocking the megan racing ones and they feel great. As for the kts' I have them on order so yeah...

I would say for your purposes, the Megan Racing coilovers would do the trick. They are streetable, yet also track ready. Enjuku uses them on thier Formula D car and they haven't had any problems with them. I deicded on them due to price and quality. For the price, nothing comes close.

More often than not, you get what you pay for. If the name of the brand is not important to you, you'd better look up the spring rates and versatility of all the models if this is going to be a track car. Adjustable ride height, pillowball mount with camber control, electronic control, these are all things that you're going to want to consider.

And like my friend Chris tells me, it doesn't matter what suspension setup you have if you don't know what suits you as a driver.

Just remember that Nismo outsources. So when you buy a nismo coilover, your basically buying a very close relative to the Tanabe Sustec SS (they share some parts like shocks which are KYB, helper spring design is different). So go with Tanabe if you want nismo cause you'll save money. Cusco's are nice, but I think the price is a bit inflated.... I would go with a nice set of Tein Flex's. They are rebuildable and Tein is actually established in the U.S. which is a good thing.
When a company isn't established in the U.S., you run into problems. For example, KTS suspension in japan retail for less that 750 bucks, over here your paying over a thousand. I wonder how much KTS actually builds them at cost? maybe 400? 450? So anyway, just don't pay big money to third parties. The Tein retails the same in both Japan and the U.S. , go with that.

all depends on what you wanna do

Tein Flex is a very flexible setup (hence the name)

its good on the track and its not harsh on the street.

Oh btw makoto do you have a problem with your front rubber boot ripping? Cuz mine is starting to rip and i just put them on a couple of weeks ago.

I'm in Hendersonville, NC right now and there is actually a Ohlins place here. I went in to look around but they're doing some construction so I couldn't see anything. I got some cool articles about some of their suspension though. Ohlins says that their Nissan applications aren't in the US right now and they would have to special order them from Japan. He said they license out their stuff to another company that makes the suspensions for Nissans.

KTSs are smooth on decent roads but railroad tracks and potholes will still rattle you pretty bad. they're awesome quality and great for a mostly driven hard car instead of just a daily driver. i'd just get progresssive rate springs and AGX's if i was to have a DD 240.

i got my kts this week. i order them about a month ago. they are very good quality. they now come with the brake line bracket. im so impress by these coilover. i cant wait to put them on in the morning. but i got a load of stuff im going to put on at the same time. tanabe ruca, jic rear toe, spl tension rods and other things i have in my garage. i recommend kts. they have shock dyno, they been track proven by some member on this board, and a bunch of people use them as daily driver. I havent heard anything bad about kts and their supplier (spl).

Plus u get that 500 bucks to replace the shock in just incase they blow out. btw did anyone ever have to go through shock replacement?

I was in the same dilemma as you. A possible problem with those coilovers (cusco? nismo?) is the turn around to get them rebuilt, IF they can be rebuilt. How about apexi n1 pros? They're 100% rebuildable, the turn around time is 3-4 days (from what I've been told), and they're fully customizable. Just my 2 cents.
