s14 using spring compressors to lower suspension?

i just bought a 95' s14. it seems that the previous owner clamped the front springs with spring compressors to lower the car. i do not know how long these have been on, but was wondering how bad it this for my suspension? should i take them off?

ummm yea, that is a very bad idea... they could shoot off and get caught in the suspension somewhere else preventing you from having control, or it could bouce out and hi another car, and it's just plain fucking ignorant...

so yes take them off

free spring compressors, score!!!, just leave them on, dont drive it, and buy some coilovers. Spring are already compressed, your committed to coilovers. I have a sr20 water pump, now I am committed to buying an SR

if he bought coilovers, what would htat have to do with the compressed springs?

take the compressors off RIGHT AWAY. Doing that will shorten the stroke of the shocks, as well as create unnecessary wear on them. There's no telling what happened to the shocks while being compressed like this and actually driven. Best bet is to take them off and then drive. If it's messed up, get the shocks/springs replaced. Best case scenario, it's fine and you dont have to replace anything.

There's a little misinformation here.

The compressors in question usually only lock two coils together, while that ruins the spring by loading it unnecassarily it does not damage the strut/shock at all, it's just like running a lowering spring in that respect. The main issue is the compression/rebound of the OE spring is thrown off and the car will ride horrible and be unpredictable under loading. That would be the reaosn to remove them, not because there's possible damage to the rest of the car. There isn't. So unless you like the car jumping around over bumps, take them off.

i donno, i think it depends on how the compressor works. The ones i've used clamp onto 2 coils and pull them closer together, not right next to eachother though, usually 2 apart or so. I could imagine that having them this short would damage the shock on the upstroke, as when the car is trying to come back up to proper height, it's jerked to a stop by the compressor. Anyhow, driving w/ spring compressors on is a pretty huge no-no.

have u ever used one of those things and have it break/fail?
I was helping my friend change the struts on his car and one of the compressors slipped off, shot across the garage and embedded itself in the drywall. Had one of us been in the way, there would have been a definite hospital trip!

Now imagine if that happened to you on the freeway...
It prolly varies by state, but there would DEFINITELY be some accidents if not fatalities. TAKE THEM OFF ASAP!
