Dry or Wet- *HKS filter design*

I was looking on the HKS website at replacment air filter elements.
they have a wet and dry design.

from the HKS website

Quote:
The HKS Super Mega flow element is a 2-layer, dual density, wet-type polyurethane filter that uses an impregnated viscid fluid to attract and stop damaging dirt particles from entering your engine. This bonded fluid allows use of a larger pore design for maximum airflow without sacrificing filtration.
they say nothing about the dry design and i havents really found anything on the pro's and cons of the two. Anyone have input to clear things up on wich one is better regarding durability and filtartion

suck and suck. lol.. From what i recall seeing a review on filters, the typical hks mushroom *im pretty sure thats the dry one* is really bad as far as filtering out particles.. But im sure the wet one would be better. Basically think about whiping a dusty desktop with a dry rag, and with a damp rag. The damp rag will pick up more dirt.

also you must be aware that your motor uses a MAF design, so the wet fluid can clog the sensor which is never good. Just go with Apex'i if you want J-land, or go with a K&N cone design.

the oil off the wet type elements can come off and stick to your maf. its worst on cars with afm (air flow meters) like the mr2 turbo or rx-7 turbo II. the oil gets the flapper door all icky and comprimises performance. i didnt have any problems however with my hks intake when i had my mr2 turbo because i always cleaned both the filter and the afm.

HKS intakes are crap.
No, i'm not just saying that. I had a HKS SMF. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Get an Apex or leave it stock :P

yeah, its just too bad that it already came on the car and the last jackass took the stock intake. intake is the last thing on my mind right now to spend money on. i was skimming some threads yesterday about HKS and Apexi and figured i would get these responces. so i guess its bye bye HKS
