Did you have a bad experience with some cop who pulled you over and asked you to step out and searched you... and then gave you the "stick?" Reason I ask is because you seem all BUTThurt.

yes I do live in Michigan, and I follow the laws, that is why i dont have a problem with them, and trust me michigan laws arent much easier to follow, do you know its illegal to chain my crocodile to a fire hydrant in Detroit, do you know what kind of fucking problems this poses. sure ive gotten some tickets and always tip my hat to the officer and let him know what a fine job he is doing to protect the public. I dont know why your bitching and telling us how corrupt they are when you guys are just trying to figure ways to hide your illegal parts. seems like the corruption is on you. If anything, blame the lawmakers. sure maybe some of the laws are stupid but they are laws, not to be broken, I however think its a pretty good idea to try to hide the engines to get around the laws, but if you get caught like you (Ricks15) probably did for something illegal, dont go crying about how they fucked you over.

Oh, and to stay on topic, Like I said I think its a good idea to try to hide the engine with crafty plastic pieces, However the absolute trick is to get it to look natural like previous posters said, and that would seem pretty hard on such old cars, but hey never hurts to try.

Back opn topic, I think that the valve cover weld on would be the easiest way to do it. even if you made up a Nissan KA24 Hybritd motor cover it would be really far off from what they are looking for. the valve cover switch with stock looking heat shielding over the turbo i thihng would have a veary high sucess rate in fooling ots of people. police, friends, and any less than honest spectators you might have scopeing your stuff at events.

I love living in Wisconsin.......The cops in my town would look at my engine, see the turbo SR, and think my car was a turbo diesel. They do hammer me for my exhaust all the time though. I've never been asked to pop my hood though.

I'm thinking someone needs to take a 3D scanner, scan both an SR and a KA valve cover, and have a computer modeler combine them into a KA cover with the bolt holes/internals of an SR. Then CNC it out of aluminum and use it to make molds so they can be cast. a lot cleaner than just welding a KA top to an SR valve cover. only problem would be hiding the SR's coil packs.

Are these cops really intelligent enough to know at first glance that an SR is a foreign engine? Why can't you just buy an SR and keep it stock? I'm sure they wouldn't care so much then. Run a quiet CARB legal exhaust and call it a day. All that BS over there would have made me move a long time ago.

They are being trained to spot the SR's. Impactred I think you are right in that welding two covers together would be easy to spot unless you are very good. As for the coilpacks I think it would fly unless you get someone real good. I think that if you had a SR20de valve cover you could almost fool them as long as you were rean conservative with the rest of your install.

What I think the op was suggesting is a cover to cover the entire engine bay?

such as 350z

even better

Basically, I think you could achieve this with a large sheet of semi-thick aluminum, then bend/cut it around your engine bay. Paint it with wrinkle spray paint and put some nissan badging on.

am i somewhat on the same topic?

I'll do one out of sheet metal, thermal tape the bottom and spray it flat black on top and cover up some stuff even though my car is mostly stock. Only a K&N filter setup in there. I wonder if it will work...I'll take pics of it after I get it done for you guys.

Way to get back on topic. Yes this is exactly what I was proposing, the one on the RX8 woud easilly hide a SR...hell you could even hide a big ass top mount under that one. I am going to start working some stuff up also.

Like some people said before, you just need to move out of Cali. I live in Texas and no one even gives me shit for my exhaust (3 inch straight pipe all the way). It would be rather hard hiding the sr and making it look like a factory engine, especially since these cars are growing in popularity. Its going to be like a honda guy hinding all of his crap under a plastic cover. Just doesnt make sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if Texas soon followed Cali's lead in terms of smog restrictions.

Here's an idea if you persist in staying in California... don't do an SR swap! KA24DE is a much better engine than it's thought to be by most people. I'm sure you could get away with a very basic turbo setup on a KA. Use all stock parts. Stock sidemount intercooler, stock BOV/wastegate, 2.5 inch exhaust with full CAT and quiet muffler. I really don't see a point in dumping thousands of dollars into an engine that you can't even legally use!

I'm pretty sure that if they found out you put a fake cover over the engine you'd get another charge or two thrown at you.

Once upon a time, Alcohol was illegal to sell, distribute, posess and consume, in the Good Ole USA. How fucking ludicrous was that? There was no point.

There is absolutely no reason an SR20DET should be illegal in the US. If it passes sniffer (been proven to many times) then what's the big fucking deal, its not fucking polluting!!!

Anyways, plenty of people drank alcohol during the abolition. I'm gonna drive my fucking SR. Point being, stupid laws are.... stupid.

anybody thought about somehow getting the NEO6 RB25DET cover to work on the KA or SR, painted black with a nissan emblem? for the guys with the older RB25s, it should go on with minimal modification.

Yeah, they can make all the laws they want. There's a reason I live in Cali not AZ or TX. I can walk to the mountains from my house and drive to the beaches in 30 minutes. I also have track events every weekend, D1 and Formula D come to tracks within yelling distance of my house.

Anyway back on topic, Like stated before, if a cop pops your hood, and he has his little coloring book of "Street racer engines" and he sees you have some huge plastic cover the looks nothing like a KA or SR , you're going to the ref.

Do like me , don't give a damn. I get pulled over i'll buy a new chassis and transplant the SR in there. It's not like 240's are expensive.

like that is soo easy if you car is caged/spot welded and custom shit done to the chassis..

im thinking having a fan shroud, black piping and silver top might help make it look stock.. Yah ugly fan shroud but it makes the engine bay look more stock.

I was exaggerating. My cars waiting to get ticketed, I'm buying a backup car for daily. Buddy Club Spec II with no Cat is kinda the exact opposite of what you want in CA.

Take the SR valve cover, sand blast the red off it. Don't put any chrom down there. Run the stock heatshield over the exhaust manifold, you can't see the turbo. Run sidemount. Recirc the BOV. All good.

I dont wanna threadjack or anything but i have an idea for a super sleeper exhaust. Basically its an aftermarket exhaust inside a stock one, preferably a stock civic one with the super small exhaust tip. The tip of the aftermarket one curves down, exiting out the bottom of the stock one. Just an idea
