QFT, they are on point...

Seems like drifting is alive and well for those who are still actively participating. I dont drift, but I do spectate often...

I think whats ruining this "scene" for you spectators is the unrealistic expectations that sites like stancenation, hellaflush, fatlace, zilvia, speedhunters, etc create. You guys (spectators) are becoming jaded with all the saturated so called "win" that gets posted on these sites. Case in point, wheel fitment whore thread, just look at what the average zilvian considers "proper" fitment? wtf is proper about a 18x9.5 -25et wheel with a stretched 215 35 tire?? Yet that thread is at 15000+ posts and going strong?

Someone once said to me "people make things suck". That is to say that the more popular anything becomes, the more people you will have trying to do said thing which intern ruins it. This applies to drifting. you have an influx of people wanting to learn, and I for one can completely understand how they arent going to be in a rush to spend money on aesthetics. Logically, they are more concerned with having a running car, suspension mods, tires, etc.. Honestly, this just helps me appreciate the ones who take it to the next level with paint and wheels that much more.

I think so long as people enjoy something this scene will be alive and well, I am just surprised at the amount of the people who have lasted who have jank cars and still cant get it right.

Actually you seemed to have missed the whole point of the thread in your first sentence. Its not about, Is drifting popular or strong.

You and several others have also missed out on the other point in their determined defense of what they feel is ok yet a lot have developed a distaste for.
Excuse's for shitty builds, stripped interiors with the exclamation of its a track car, primered over paint jobs just because you switched a door or fender when you could have just tried to at least color match it.
Cheap parts just so you can look the part. ETC....

Missile cars that are not really missile cars just pieces of junk because its all they own.

The definition of a missile car is true yet as someone else earlier in this thread pointed out, most missile car owners in Japan actually own very clean versions of the car as well.

Oh and I personally like to see a nice car rather than a missile car. Go to any SCCA or Road Racing event. You never see beat up looking piles of shit on the track. If a car gets damaged in an event it gets fixed to presentable. From a distance of five feet away they look good regardless of how battle worn they are.

Its about taking some pride in the car you own, personally the more beat the car I drive gets the more I dislike it. I don't need to drive around in a Ferrari, I do like to have my car presentable though.

Oh and the other thing which some of the other old timers have stated and I agree with is, its about fun.

Taking pride in what you drive and having fun. Nothing less nothing more.

You also cannot blame it on Stancenation, Hellaflush, Zilvia, etc... that is called not taking responsibility for ones own actions.
People do what they decided to do be it follow the herd or step out. It's their decision in the end.

OH and I do think this thread is pretty much well beaten to death as well.

I just read (almost) this whole thread. All i have to say is......

Wheres all the white bitches at?

I mean thats as relevant as half the shit in here. I have loved drifting since I was in high school, I know for me its just hard to see the dilution of the "scene" just because people want to make or save a quick buck.
It used to be about style AND fun. Now its seriously 90% of trying to convince other people how cool you are.
The Internet ruined a lot of shit, including the already low level of intelligence Americans had prior to its popularity.

This thread did make it very easy to identify the broke/cheap/fanboys that are on zilvia. So good job there. I like how they come out of the woodwork to defend themselves against random points made. All defensive and shit.

Can we have like a red pill zilvia and a blue pill zilvia? or something along those lines?

I know this is a older post, but i saw this and i just want to say i totally agree! It might not be just florida, its probably happening everywhere but it is huge here. I remember for my first car i got a 240sx and i was so stoked because i knew all the potential it had. Meanwhile everyone at my school laughed and called my car a piece of shit and old because they had no clue of the history or meaning of this car. And of course all these stupid people were driving stock hondas or vw's with hid's and thought they were the coolest people ever. Now guess what? They all sold their cars and now are all getting shitty barely running 240's and just giving us all a bad name, and it just pisses me off so much! They have no idea how special and unique these cars are, instead they just think they're all top "drifters", but really they're just giving us a bad name and ruining what we all love... it makes me sooo angry!

Your arguing two different points with the same message.

My understanding of the thread is "Drifting is an excuse for broke ass posers to build garbage cars"

The other side is "the scene sucks cause its full of broke ass posers"

Same problem. You see so many garbage cars because "the scene" dictates that this is acceptable "because they are drifters"... duh, drift damage! Shit is hella koo

You are absolutely correct about SCCA/NASA events. In fact American Iron (NASA) actually has it written in the rules that cars most be properly painted showing new sign of body damage for each event.

This is what an actual SCCA Racing champion 240SX looks like

This is what race car missiles should look like.

Not this -

Actually I was pointing out the fact that the previous poster had the idea that part of the thread was about how popular or not drifting was.

The main point of the thread was how the current crop of owners had managed to denigrate the quality of the cars with beat pieces of shit. It really had nothing to do with broke ass posers though they might have contributed to it.

The scene if you want to call it that sucks because few seem to take pride in their cars anymore. Like I said earlier they use excuses for it as well.

I will say this one more time, in slightly different words Respect for what you own and fun. Respect means making it presentable so you can be respected.

Ever notice how all the fan boys drooled over BH's car. They did because he made it presentable.

if It had looked like a piece of shit no one would have cared.

eric, you make it seem like you're the epicenter of drifting. that you're IMMERSED in drifting. that you ARE drifting.

for fucks sake, even your screen name isnt a fuckin screen name.. its your real name. might as well rename youself to ERICCASTROISDRIFTING

i mean really, who cares? do you visit your parents and are like "hi mom, its me.. eric castro going drifting later today, then going back to hollywood"

i dunno, but at the end of the day how much pride can you have when you drive your mistake-ridden vehicle around the streets of LA. ide be a bit ashamed showing up to a party and be like "sup y0, its me eric drift king castro" and then someone asks "hey whats up with your... fender, err... CAR, its all ragged and beat to fuck" then you reply "im a drifter, y0. i hit the wall at 80+ mph.. thats life in the fast-lane, hommie"

i think of it like martial arts. i am no kung fu master, but i sure as hell cant imagine walking around all day and all night wearing a dirty, stinky, dingy karate gi everywhere i go... just because i want to show people that i'm 100% down for the cause. walkin around with a face all beat to shit, lookin like jason vorhees without the mask n shit

No sir, you seem to miss the entire point of this thread. This thread is more about how OP thinks that "cars are supposed to look cool. (No matter what you do with them)" and how the scene is littered with drift missile cars that no one really wants to watch, because they dont look kool. Well I would argue that people who drive drift missile do not do it for respect, infact, they could care less what you or I or anyone thinks of their cars because they are actually out there, having fun with their cars. Drifting is about having fun, more so then pride. They are not there to earn your respect, they are their to drift, learn and practice. Your there to watch them go sideways. Want to see nice cars? Goto a car show. Why are there so many drift missile cars? because more and more people want to do it, and they want to do it economically. So if I follow your logic correctly, if they cant afford to make their cars appealing to you they just shouldnt drift? lol...

That being said, I can agree with you that nice cars are nice to look at, especially when they are not just trailer queens with impossible stances that stay hard parked 24/7. It would be nice if the "scene"(im starting to hate this word) found some sort of middle ground between missile and presentable like scca, BUT scca has been around for 70+ years and is VERY organized. Drifting, at least here in the US is still in its infancy. either way its illogical to think that someone who is just getting into it is going have a nice car, at least not nice for long.

lol, ixfxi would it make a difference if eric's drift car was a lime green 911 gt3? that he then took to parties? keeping in mind its probably going to have damage...

I did read the first post and I got the entire point of the thread. The entire point was people used to take care of their drift cars and people used to take care of their cars. Now it seems a majority does not.

Now if you want to go and try to attribute that strictly to the OP well there you are way off base.

While it may be his opinion, its actually quite on target.

It is hard to appreciate ones car when so many people drive beat up cars that your car winds up getting lumped into a crowd. The word you are starting to hate denotes this crowd and is called a scene, whether people like or not. Its a sad fact.

As for the fun factor its interesting your talking about it being fun as you openly admitted you don't do it. How do you know if its fun? I did do it, I don't much anymore, I know its fun because of that.

I think you would be lying to me if you did not admit you would not want to go to watch a drift event with a bunch of beat up piles of shit.

Unless of course all you want to see is crashes.

Its an observation on what is actually going on. You can try and defend the bullshit all you want.

Now please do not make me have to explain it you once again as it has already been explained.

I will sum this thread up like this,

points were made
points were taken
points were discussed
it was agreed
people unhappy with the truth kept on coming back for more
Some of us who speak the truth had to pound it into your heads.

final end ... People unhappy with the truth keep on coming asking to have it pounded into there heads.

Now I am done at this point with this Merry Go Around which you so seem to enjoy circling.

I also found that quite intriguing. Thank you for not wasting my time with something to read.

Unlike what this thread became.
