s13 I like the Red Tops

I have had Red Tops in all my cars. Never had a problem with starting. Plus I left my headlights on in my 96 maxima for 6 hours and came out and the car still started right up. What other battery can do that?

what is this bullshit? did optima all of a sudden start cutting corners? did you investigate their build quality and have some kind of undercover information that we're not aware of?

if you have something meaningful to add, say it.. just quit spreading propaganda.

Point being, a battery will last as long as its properly maintained. Now, considering most S13 owners are idiots who dont maintain their cars... theres no reason to assume ANY battery, including a super strong optima/odyssey will last if the person neglects their electrical system.

The red top batteries are considered "starting" batteries, designed to give the most cold-cranking-amps for automotive use. Generally speaking, this is the choice battery for MOST people. Its a good balance of performance and cost.

The yellow and blue are both deep cycle, but the blue top seems to be more durable and dependable. I have had my blue to for near 10 years now, it STILL fucking works. The redtop in the Miata is also several years old and works like a charm.

If you maintain your electrical system by making sure your alternator is in good condition and properly charges the battery, then your electrical system will last for a very long time.

The biggest problem I see is that most people run these under-sized motorbike batteries and end up putting too much of a strain on their alternators (charging system). All for what? To save weight? I have an idea, get a girlfriend that isnt as fat...

that would be better....

i have a optima redtop have only had 2 in so many years... die hards are good but better spend the few more on a optima... but i would recomend the yellow top its way better than the red one... ive heard good things about odyssey and svr you should check it out...

i'd say a redtop.

pros:
-good cranking power
-2 year replacement warranty
-gel cell, so you can mount it any way you'd like
-it wont blow up/leak acid

cons:
-price, but they're getting cheaper.

personally, i picked a yellow top, decent cca's and deep cycle, so i can run all the electronic gadgets without having to worry about it putting a strain on the system.

but thats just my .02 cents.

agreed not to mention that optima's are used by the military, thus the reason they were on backorder two years ago when the Govt. purchased a ton of them.

Are you serious? The battery has probably been sitting for a while, so just jump your car, and drive around. Sounds like it just needs to be charged

Optima is trash.

Just standard miata case battery, its small works well, and is cheap. Pick your preference in manufacture, but those gelcell batteries are no fun.

Did they check the charge on the battery before giving it to you? Heaven forbid you exchange it.

Good Luck with a DieHard I sued Sears for Acid burns I received from a brand new one as I was leaving the store. The top wasn't sealed on from the factory. Lucky they have a safety shower and the got my new cloths from the mens dept as it melted my shirt and pants.

I wasn't saying optima is trash but i've had a few come in that were defective from the factory and i've seen many people having trouble with theirs on the car audio forums. Optima makes a good battery but there are others i'd spend my money on first.

i had a bad ground on my gold s14 somewherea nd it kept killing my optima redtops, literally killing 4 of the cells from some odd ass reason. i think i had a bad ground, BUT, i swapped batterys with my sister from her Scion TC and with even a bad ground the scion TC factory batter hasnt fucked me over in almost a month. still is like a champ.
