When the dumbasses are on duty I just walk past the counter down the parts rack pick out what I need and hand it to them. I had a problem once at auto zone. so, I asked the guy to bring one of every size up. His reply was "oh shit, just come on back then"

When I needed new exhaust gaskets this spring, I went to an Autozone in the san fran area an told them I needed a 2.5" gasket with three bolt holes, they showed me to a section where they had a bunch of gaskets for domestics (head and exhaust gaskets, etc). I grabbed the one I needed and paid. Not all autozones will be like that, but it shouldn't be that hard.
