lol forgive me for wanting some creature comforts. after going through the whole "upgrade the base model" dance with my s14 I want whatever new car I buy to have the better stuff like hid's and big brakes out the box. and I like gadgets so it's a selling point for me. and I want the driving experience what's wrong with wanting both?

nothing wrong with that at all imo, we enjoy different things for different reasons, at different times.
if the premium isn't outrageous I'd gladly take stuff like HID's & a better factory stereo.

lol @ comments about nissan.
I would just enjoy this for what it is.
even if nissan decided to sincerely pursue something like this, there's no guarantee it would work as well.

well - if the FRS/BRZ really takes off then that should put some pressure on JDM wheel companies to offer some good sizes for 5x100.

wheeldude is gonna make a killing selling rotas for these cars! lol.

Ugh, I hope the final production cars are 5x114.3

Has Toyota ever made anything in 5x100?

I can see, Ye have little faith in Nissan. LOL You probably look at it differently than I do. I have driven Nissan's for most of my life. I have driven and owned other cars including a Corolla but the Nissan's have always been my reliable go to cars and damn fun to drive.

Call me a Nissan man call me a fucking fanboy LOL . Unlike some I did not jump on a bandwagon . 510's, Roadsters, 240Z's , Hardbody trucks, 240sx's owned and loved all of them. I have to hold a little hope Nissan will do something. Plus I am an Optimist so I can't help but hold hope. LOL

It does not mean I will not seriously consider buying a BRZ. I like the damn car. LOL
I also do not mind lt being somewhat base model approach. Its a damn sports car. All it needs is air and power windows. Those are the most modern creature comforts I care about.

Digital Climate control is trick and dope but its not a killer. Oh and if dumping digital climate control means a reduction in cost and pricing fucking great!

Oh and those whole big brake thing is getting really silly. Most modern cars are equipped with fairly decent brake setups from the factory. I saw the stock brakes on the FRS last night and they were perfect for the car.

The BRZ will be priced similarly to an STi apparently, but probably lower. So...that makes the BRZ a 30k car and the FR-S and <30k car. Apparently it's for the 'more affluent' but whatever. I didn't think HIDs, push to start and DCC would make such a big price increase though.

I don't know how much credence I can give that article, it also says the Subaru is turbocharged with just over 200hp.

I do appreciate Nissan for some of things they currently offer (Z, GTR),
as well as their notable efforts in the past.
I have faith in the company & in their ability to come up with great cars.
I just see no evidence they're committed to this type of car.

Don't mind it being a fun bare bones model too much either if it comes out that way, it's not a deal killer (just bought a new car recently that's like that).
However, it would be nice to have some hid's & a good stereo for everyday driving, if that's avail.
FT has to appeal to more than just the enthusiast driver to remain profitable, and to many the 'options' are part of the appeal.

Nissan probably already have their next lightweight RWD concept in the books and will pull the trigger if the FR-S / BRZ do good in sales.

They updated the article after a reader pointed out the error, however I must agree. Along the way all articles have been pointing to a sub 30K price tag for this car. A 34K price tag would put this car into BMW, Mustang 370z, Camaro territory.

I highly doubt Subaru would price it that high.

And how good is it to entertain the thought that Nissan will pull out the plans for the S16 they carelessly tossed in the dumpster a couple of years back? They really have to make that car now because they will well and truly been left behind by Toyota and Subaru if they don’t. Or perhaps not entirely. You see, according to very high ranking sources within Nissan and Nismo, both companies are carefully watching to see how successful the BRZ and 86 are going to be. In actual fact, I quote one as saying, “…we hope they sell well because that will validate the return of a car like the Silvia.” When I asked if Nissan were still developing the S16 in any way, the response was cryptic; “I’m sure if you ask them, they will say they have no comment on the matter.” Read into that what you will.

Nissan has already said it's working on a new 240/sx/Silvia whatever. And that was just recently. However I am not even getting excited in the least bit until I see a spy shot or they release a concept. Until then the idea is as good as dead to me.

The next step for us Nissan enthusiasts is to convince our friends and family to buy the FR-S/BRZ. That way we get the ultimate achievement unlock: S16 Silvia.

are the front bumpers different between teh FR-S and GT 86? seems a little more aggressive on the gt86, but maybe thats just the headlights and fog lights making it look different?

I can pretty much bet that almost everyone here will having something to whine about when Nissan actually does put out a new Silvia. Seriously I have never seen such a whinier bunch of enthusiasts in my life.

actually some of us are willing to commit, it's just a vast minority.

dave, you should go buy the ft86.
