Miles on gauge cluster question
Did a search but couldnt find anything on this. I have a new oem 240sx S14 gauge cluster on its way, because my old one was messed up pretty bad. (RPM falls slow and sticks.) Just wondering if anyone knows anything about changing the miles on the new one to meet the miles on my car. Ive heard of shops you can take it to, but i havnt found anything in the phonebook. The new one has like 31k miles and my car has about 115k. So, maybe i can take it out and run it up maybe. Anyone ever do this or know how to??

Technically you're asking a question about a process that's illlegal, since running a cluster up is the same process as going back.
If you look at it real well you'll figure it out, but most people won't liberate that kind of information freely. |

^exactly, but it's really not that hard once you open the cluster up yourself. And examine, whawt you are going to do. I have rolled back my miles on my s13, I just wanted to see exactly how many miles were on my swap.

Some of the new engine control unit can do that, but not old Nissans. The ECU only provides very rudimentary engine control functions, which is a good thing because it keeps costs down and keeps thing simple to fix.
Modern cars have mini-processors that control even simple functions like lights (theatre-style dimming) and door locks (automatic locks when moving). It makes them nice to have, but also make them really expensive and complicated to fix when they do break down. |
