Not to say I've decided to turbo the KA, just exploring my options.
Say, I piece together a good turbo set and run mild boost (5-6psi) on my 156K mile S13 KA. In the meantime, I buy a newer, low mileage S14 KA and build it up (pistons, rods, etc.). Are there any significant differences between the two forms of this engine that might cause problems when trying to transfer the turbo system components...like turbo exhaust manifold, differences in intake manifold, etc. Why does the S14 redline at 6500? Could I use my tach and still rev to 7K safely? Are there any other differences? |

cams?? that would be my guess different cams exhibit different rev caracteristics.
significant differrences? Most likely not . there may be small differences in the head casting. I know that the S14 smog setup under the hood leaves a lot more room without having to move stuff for the Turbo. I know S14's came with OBDII which is a really picky ECU setup compared to our S13's. I put a 98 5 speed trans in my car when I did my auto to 5 speed swap . I had to put in the earlier S13 5 speed speed sensor because the later one did not send out the right pulse and my speedo was off? so there could be a couple of little gremlins but nothing major IMHO . |

I know the cams are different, but could the motor safely rev the extra 500rpm since the turbo would likely shift the power band up?
When you say there may be small differences in head casting, would they be significant enough to cause any interference when swapping the turbo manifold? I thought only '97-'98 came with OBDII. Could I just use the S13 ecu? |

use the S13 ECU , S14 ECU is OBDII and they started that in 95. even thought it was not mandatory till 97. As far swapping Turbo manifolds it all depends on who designs it. I know of one person who got a custom manifold for a S13 KADE and supposed had to grind a little to go on his S14 head but that was a custom manifold not something like a JGS or revhard.
As far as reving the extra 500 rpm that depends on fuel delivery , ECU settings and Cams. |

thanks.
