ka24de cranks but no start

i'm looking for a few more ideas on my crank-no start before i tow it to a shop. here's the run down on my problem. a few weeks ago my car started having occassional hard starts. it would crank a while, fire, die. this would repeat a couple of times before it would idle. after that it would drive perfectly (no odd idle, no missfiring). this started happening more and more. then the car would just crank, wouldn't even fire.

this is what i've done so far trying to fix the issue:
walbro 255lph (i would have gone stock but this car was supposed to go ka-t this month)
z32 fuel filter
checked the vac line on fpr for gas - it was dry
new wires, cap, rotor

what i know - the car has spark at the coil and at the plugs. the fuel pump primes and provides pressure (can feel the line get stiff). sometimes on the first crank it will pop, but then it will smell very flooded after cranking it somemore (it did this even before the walbro 255).

i'm not sure where to look next, maybe several of my injectors are going bad (sticking or leaking) - can i put sr 370's in to test (have a set from my other 240)?

any help is appreciated, thanks
-carl

try cleaning the IACV valve that can cause your problem.

Have you checked your pulse width in your injectors?
If your signal is low, could be a distrubutor problem..

crank no start problems are usually fuel related, and since you got the walbro you should check the fuel pump fuse, if that doesn't work, check fuel lines or the psi reg. and if that doesn't work, then beats me.

also you may wanna check the oil level as well

the pump primes so the fuse is not blown

the problem is the same with the walbro as it was with the stock pump. i even drove it around on the walbro fine one of the rare occasions it started

check your alt. and maybe your battery, also check that all of the connections to your ignition, and so forth are hooked up, it souds like a spark related problem, and it could also be a base timing issue, but its a hit or miss thing. Do you smell fuel? Also, after u crank it over a few times, take out the spark plugs, all 4 of them, and unplug the coil wire from the distributer, and crank it over a few times, you might just be flooding your engine. Also do this outside, not in a garage because fuel will shoot out like a fountain.

sorry to dig up a old thread but im having simular problems right now.

Car is a 92 240SX with bone stock motor, zero mods. it ran like a champ even after a CEL would come and go. Finally got a scanner and was able to check the CEL and it said i had a leaky injector. I got the injectors out and sent them to DW for a checkup. They somehow didnt test them before cleaning and just ran them after they cleaned it so it the flowcharts said everything was good.

i got them back today and installed it back in the car. I tried to start the car but after 1 crank it kinda locked up and stopped cranking instantly. ive had fuel flooding issues before on other cars so i took out the spark plugs to check the cylinders. #1 was completely flooded, i can see the fuel with my flashlight. i pumped out all the fuel, other cylinders were fine, #4 had a bit of oil in it =(

so of course i had the fuse out for the fuel pump. i checked to see if all spark plugs were working. everything was looking good. put everything back and now it just cranks forever and wont turn over. i dont know what else to check for. i know the fuel pump is working because i have pressure in the fuel rail. i had to check the injectors to make sure everything was good and i had fuel squirt out when i pulled the first injector.

any ideas guys?

You should really check your injectors.

Basically you need 3 things for a motor to start. Fuel, Spark, and Compression. If your not getting one of the 3 then no start. Begin checking to see if you have spark by testing with a plug wire pulled out with another spark plug plugged in. Next make sure that you are getting good/correct fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Too much pressure could cause a flooded motor. For example: Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator. Then check for compression. All four should be fairly close to each other in PSI.
If your motor is flooded, pull out the fuel pump fuse or EGI fuse and crank the motor for 10-15 secs to push out the excess fuel. Then try to restart it. Hope this helps.

i figured out my problem. forgot to undo the gas cap so the pressure built up and pushed all my gas into my engine. drained it yesterday and put new oil. dripped some oil into the cylinder for lubrication. found out when i pulled out my dipstick and fuel started gushing out. going to crank it up to burn off the rest of the mess in the cylinders and will post an update later.
