A few technical questions mixed with some non-tech.
Here I go. 1) I just bought some new Accel 8mm sparkplug wires and NGK plugs and when I took the old plug wires out and when i stuck the socket in there is a gasket of some type about a half inch above the plugs and the wrench won't go past it. My dad was convinced it was the valve cover gasket so I take off the valve cover and it wasn't that gasket its still far down there. I can't even get the new wires past it. Anyone know what it could be and if I can get it out? 2) I know i need new brake pads up front but the back still work well with no noise. But the other day I decided to test my E-Brake and instead of it stopping me fast it took like 60 feet to slow me down and I was doing like 20. In the t-bird i used to drive when i grabbed the e-brake the brakes locked and it through my face into the dash. Is this a brake problem or just how 240's are? 3) My front winshield washers don't spray anymore, I have plenty of fluid, and I used compressed air to blow out any dirt that could be clogging them. When i pull back the switch and nothing comes out and I hear nothing but when I het the switch for the back it works fine and I here a noise like a pump running, I figured that all the squirters would run off the same pump but I guess not. Where would these pumps be located? okay none technical.. 4) Can I change the color of my dash by putting in a different color bulb. Or is there a way to make it brighter other than the dimmer switch? 5)what kind of paint should I use to paint my valve cover? Thanks, Any reply would be appreciated. John |

as far as the valve cover goes goto the auto parts store and get high temp engine enamel/paint and get high temp clear enamel.Take off your valve cover when it is cool and clean it off very well try sanding it down some to make it smoothand to get any unwanted grime off that may have stained it"oil,greeseetc...".Then put about 5-8 coats of paint on and let dry every 2-3 coats for about an hour.Then when you get the paint on let it dry for a few hours so it set on well.Then put the clear coat on put almost if not double the amount of coat that you did paint to get that glossey look then let dry for about 24 hours so it stays and looks good.Be careful when putting it on cus you can nic the paint up.The if you want a cool look and you have access to a hand help belt sander take that and run it accross where it say nissan twin cam on the top.I will show you a pic of my valve cover.
If this is a twin cam then you have spark plug gasket as well right before the plugs check that or may be your socket is to big to fit in the hole for the plugs i don;t know exactly but you moter to your wipers could be gone in the front i belive they run on seperate moters for the front and the rear |

I am pretty much with biessen on the issue of the spark plug gasket. Are you using a 5/8 sparkplug socket, or just a 5/8 socket. When I put in the Ngk Iridiums, I loosened the old plugs with the regular 5/8 socket, and then used the spark plug socket to pull them out. Spark plug sockets have gaskets on the inside for grip, it is possible that one could have gotten left in there with the old plugs when they were put in. The gasket shouldn't be longer than 5/8, so a 5/8 socket (regular, no gasket inside) should be big enough to let you get both that gasket and that plug out. If that won't get the gasket out, you'll have to get some needlenose pliers and have at it or else you'll have to have it professionally removed. Painting the valve cover should work out beautifully, leave some pictures when you finish. And about that ebrake, i would advise you use that for anything but when you park on an incline. I killed mine drifting before (i know, not the smartest thing to do) anyway, and ebrake is not necessarily something you want to have to pay to get fixed, so save yourself the trouble, get those front and rear brakes in shape, they are the ones you need anyway. Im not sure if you can adjust the E-Brake on a 240 but i know that you can on a Z32. Thats what my old 300ZTT use to do untill i just tightend the ebrake up. And also does the gasket look like it is rubber or paper?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> As for the valve cover use the advise stated in the above post.

Well Get some needle nose pliers and try to pull it out then. It most likey is the the rubber insert in the spark plug socket that just came out. Or your old Wire boots might have started to fall apart. I wouldn't see why there would be a rubber gasket in that area of the engine so it is ok to yank on on it with the pliers.
