Intakes and exhaust

Hello, I am new to this board. I just purchase my 240sx (S14) last week. I traded in my Neon for this bad boy. Minus the color and the nasty chrome rims, and other small minors problems, I like the car. To show how much I like this car, I want to give it a present. I am curious what intake would be the best? I am considering the AEM intake. The exhaust I want a cat-back system that is 2.25 still. I was looking into the Apexi N1 dual exhaust, but not sure on the piping size. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with any of the intake systems for our cars, but have heard many good things about the Injen intake, and not so much of the AEM -- that's probably just because there're more people running injens than AEMs.

As for exhausts, I think 4 out fo 5 people with exhausts on this board have the Apex'i N1... I've heard nothing but good things! Piping should be no larger than 2.5" in diameter for the N1, although I think you can get 80mm (>3") piping upon request (for turbocharged engines.)

The only quality exhaust sold in the US for the s14 is the Fireball. &nbsp;It is 2.5" piping. &nbsp;Everything else is about 3" and up! &nbsp;There are lots of N1's running around b/c they are cheap.

Injen is preferred intake b/c it has been around longer. &nbsp;AEM is new to 240s - but no doubt makes a quality product.

Welcome! I agree with these guys.. &nbsp;An intake is an intake.. they all do the same thing. &nbsp;Get the one you think is prettiest. &nbsp;I believe the only "Quality" intakes are:

Injen
AEM
Hotshot
so...

You could also go for one of the Greddy, or HKS 60mm exhausts.

Wow, I had no idea the N1 was so big. Sorry for the misinformation. I guess they (N1s) must be either 75 or 80mm then.

Just how big (small) is the S13s stock T25 turbo? I've never seen it in person. My daily driver (VW MkIV GTi) has a KKK K03 turbo which is TINY (literally the size of your fist for both compressor and exhaust housings) and was wondering how much bigger the T25 is.
I ask because 2.5" piping has been proven to give better gains on the K03 than 3" piping -- which is "too big" for the small turbo.
Thgere are those who swear that bigger is always better, but I happen to subscribe to the contrary opinion.
If the T25 isn't much bigger (at all) then I imagine 2.5" piping may be better suited to the S13 SR20DET's stock turbo, too.

HKS also makes a nice non-turbo exhaust. &nbsp;the HKS Hiper. &nbsp;2.5. &nbsp;Basically, almost exactly like the N1, but 2.5" instead of 3-4" piping. &nbsp;

the N1 dual has a 3" by the cat, which splits into 2 2.5"(or 2.25, don't remember) pipes. &nbsp;this allows backpressure, due to the small pipes, but at high speeds, also allows more flow due to there being 2 pipes.

if I needed exhaust, for NA, I'd go with either the N1 Dual, 5zigen Fireball, or HKS Hiper.

The N1 dual is 3in from the cat then splits to two 2.5in pipes. &nbsp;I feel it is great w/ the t25. &nbsp;The t25 is pretty small but not nearly as small as what you were talking about. &nbsp;VW is notorious for making very underpowered turbo cars though ::exception corrado(sp):: Anyway the t25 is big enough to handle up to 18psi but I wouldn't reccomend it 14psi is the highest I would go for a daily driver w/ a FMIC. &nbsp;BTW I run 10psi w/ a SMIC

The Corrado didn't have a turbo, the only engine options were a 158hp supercharged 2.0L four and a 178hp 2.8L VR6. VW's turbo engines aren't underpowered, they're strapped with small turbos for quick spool and lots of torque. Replace the small turbo with a big turbo and power follows accordingly - APR's totally daily drivable Stage III kit gives over 290hp on pump gas from the 1.8t.

IMO 3" is the only way to go with a streetable turbo four. It's really hard to have too big an exhaust with a turbo.

By the way Neons do kick ass - my old '95 Sport ran a 16.0@83 my first time out drag racing. &nbsp;Stock from end to end, on all-season tires. &nbsp;It could bark the tires on the 2-3 upshift. &nbsp;Even so, my 240SX is slower, but still much more fun...
