goddamn those tractor trailers hauling shit around and not covering there shit up right.. Well here is what happened. I went to Chicago for the weekend and I was driving back though PA on I-80 and there were lots of 18 wheelers.. well, one was carrying a load of stones in the back.. i mean like bigger than fists .. huge.. and its 2 lanes through out all of I-80 in PA.. I'm in the right hand lane- boxed in- no way out and we're doing about 85 mph.. and we get near an exit.. well we get near the off ramp and he's getting off and the off ramp had bumps as it came off the lane.. well the trailer hit it hard enough that a few rocks bounced off and hit the road.. well- one came dead center at my car and landed in front of me.. I couldn't swerve and I just said f***!!!! and gritted my teeth while I heard it hit and bounce underneath my car.. I was pissed and I had passed the exit and I couldn't go back.. the next exit was like 5-6 miles down the road.. I eventually pulled over and found it had done this..

I almost cried and then said.. f it-- I'll go home and see what I can doo.. well- to replace it will cost like $700 w/paint.. Does anyone know how I can fix it?? Somebody told me fiberglass patch kit.. I dunno though.. I need help pleasee... Thanks people..

Well...you could patch it with fiberglass resin. That looks like it will be tricky but VERY possible. I rebuilt a good portion of the driver's side rear quarter on Jeff's old corvette with that stuff.

If you can get the lip somewhat fitted back together, sand it down, buy the bondo resin and start patching. If you put the time into it, only you will know about it if you look hard enough.

As for painting, you can probably buy the spray touchup paint and take care of it. The area doesn't look that big. If you're not confident in your spraying skills, have a shop do it...but try to do the body work yourself.

If you decide on doing it, let me know and i'll be glad to help wherever i can.

Most time they have phone numbers on the back of those trucks for you to call , you know like "How am I driving" or some shit like that. But I problay would have just got off and not thought about getting his liscence plate number either, and then realized how bad the bumper was. Sorry man I hope that you can repair it yourself and not spend 700 bucks, thats alot of money for that.

I would almost say to replace it. Fiberglass is pain in the ass to mess with. plus the bumper would have to be repainted again anyways.

that sucks. Did it damage anything underneath? Good thing you didn't have an intercooler up there

Check your messenger. I sent you all the details.

Also, think of it this way...700 to replace and repaint.

Or you can spend $50 in supplies and do the work youself (FREEBIE!!&#33 <--- heh...monster garage

you can do the paint work yourself if you have/know someone with the equip.

Or pay someone to do the bumper for a fraction of the cost of replacing and repainting from scratch. (new bumper = sand, prime, lots of paint, clearcoat repaint= match paint and feather in , clear)

I didn't check underneath yet.. but yea- if i had an intercooler... it would have been toast, no pun intended.. the screen sitting in there just ripped out and the underbody shield got broken(yea its plastic, but its thick).. that got broken too so it did hit nice and hard.. Thank god it didn't go high up and break the center of my bumper.. that'd be scary, it'd end up in my radiator.. eeek..

Yeah, a few weeks back Im driving home from Dallas and its pitch black out on I-35W when I see a Jeep Cherokee which is about 10 car lengths ahead of me drive over something. He didn't swerve, didn't hit the hazards, didn't do anything. So it wasn't until the HUGE piece of tire in the road was 1 milisecond away from being hit and I just gritted my teeth and hit it full on.

God it SUCKED. Thank god I had a stuck bumper. It marked it up pretty nicely. Two days later I totaled the car...go figure.

You can see the tire mark in the lower drivers side mouth of the bumper.
