ok my friend is thinking of rebuilding his engine, for the purposes of turboing it later.
he's got a 1995 base model
135K miles on it.
i told him it would probably use a good port and polish new head gasket... valve job..
i dunno what else should be involved(no hardening internals)
i just want it back to factory specs..

Im looking to do the same thing sometime in the near future for the same reason.  I have the same model also.

Since you'll have everything pulled you may want to consider changing out to new pistons and rods that can take the turbo you would eventually put in.  Save some work later.

Also if you have and site info on how to pull the engine (like a walkthrough) let me know since Ill need all the help I can get!

i'm loking to return the car to factory spec.. and perfectly sound running capability.. i'll pick up on the reinforcing later.. curious.. will the 97-98 (forged) pistons fit in the 95 ka24de?... b/c i heard they would?

yes they would

as for a complete rebuild thing, all u need to do is this
1. change rings
2. check pistons and rods, dont really need to replace them only if needed.
3. new valves and springs
4. new valve seals and retainers
5. check cam clearance and replace shims that are not in factory spec.
6. replace main and rod bearings
7. oil pump
8. timing chain and tensioners
9. front and rear seal.
10. head gasket
11. clean intake and exhaust ports
12. and as many gaskets as possible

that is a complete engine rebuild to stock specs
