How are you widening the wheels? Are they multi piece? Where are you getting the barrels from, if so?

if multi pc, im assuming just rebarreling them from kodiak or something...but VW/euro guys widen steelies and there have been a few GTO owners able to source a shop that widened one pc cast wheels to high precision and accuracy...meaning that they balanced fine and retained structural integrity...but i've never heard of $150 per wheel for the process...its usually more...
just dont get stiffed man, wheels are no joke...and if youre adamant on widening your existing ones, make sure theyre are a reputable shop to do so...dont end up getting shafted $600 and dying over it...

You should get two steelies and make a 11" wide wheel.
Cut in half and weld together, VW style. Those guys are the GANGSTERS when it comes to stretched and being safe unsafe. Stupid flush euro style, bad ass.

You mention they are beater wheels, why would you spend money on them?
Isn't the point of beater wheels to be cheap as possible and not give a crap about them? But either way I would personally just save up for a set of nice wheels and keep beater wheels as back up IF you track the SC and need to switch wheels often |

With the kind of power that I plan on putting down I need to run some 315s on the street. Wheels can be widened and any set can be widened for the deep dish look and so forth. Check out http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/Wide.htm they are reall good at what they do. I met a guy who had his done on his supra because Enkei does not make the RPO1 in a wider than 9.5 and he wanted 12". You can widen any wheel. Yes they are beater wheels and that is why I am willing to try this out. But my beater wheels also look nice and I need width. 275s don't offer enough traction. I spin 1-4th gear with 616 at the tire. So time for more width I already have a set of CCWs on the way for the nice looking wheels. I just want my cheap MB Motorsport Drifters in a wider fitment that 9.5"
Widen the wheels its cool!

usually when they "widen wheels" it goes the wrong direction making your offset higher. That is cutting apart mono block wheels and doing it that way, not switching stuff with multi piece wheels. How about quit ruining a Lexus? That shits to ghetto for a supposive luxury car. Do it right or dont do it. I can see it working but to do it right would be silly....

yeah, site looks ghetto superstar
kodiak rebarrels...google or something do these weldcraft clowns add the the pad of the wheel to change/even out the offset? if not, put into consideration you could end up rubbing on the inside after having them widened. especially with aneurysm spec 315s. edit: wootwoot beat me to it. also agree with stop ruining the car.

You chumps do realize that most cars that are extremely luxurious have wide wheels. The lexus different designe in the wheel wells none of that super low offset specs needed to fill the fender. a 9.5" +25 sticks out about 1/2 inch on the fender. With a 275 Rubber I ahve 5 inches before I rub on the coilover. So that means if I feel like it i can run a 14" wide wheel. But that is stupid wide. I like wide tires stretching is boring and on a big car like the lexus it looks anemic. So its not ruining the car i am taking advantage of the amount of room that I have. I just asked if anybody had ever considered widening their wheels. Remember the wider the better especially when you make Enzo like power.

Sorry, but if you're having traction issues in 4th (which I can't see with only 600whp) why don't you move to drag radials in the rear? That's the correct thing to do in this case... not just tack on wider rubber.

I dont really get this...you come in here, tell everyone your getting your wheels widened, and asking suggestions. a few ppl say it looks ghetto. a few ppl question why you need wider wheels or are having traction issues (since a lot of kids come in rocking 11 inch wide wheels and put down oh say.......120whp on a stock KA) its a legitimate question to ask. But honestly, What wheels are you running exactly? If I spent all that $ to make my car 600whp and if i daily drove it, Id probably want to rock some sick ass works that are wide as hell. Or if its for the track, get some volks or something that does lots of custom sizes.
But you already made up your mind (see your first post) so, why is this thread even here? Just do it, and make new thread titled "I got my wheels widened" with pics showing the welds and stuff so we can see first hand what it looks like. =) Im just of the opinion that there arent many wheels worth widening, and If i had $ to build a 600 whp car, id rather just sell my current wheels and spend extra on some work 12 inch wide S1 or something. |

The wheels that I am getting widened are cheap cast alloys. Have you ever driven in nashville? The roads in and around the city will eat your rims up. I keep a nice set of wheels for shows and events where the car will need to look its best. I have a set of stock TT wheels for autocross and road race events. I run CCW drags for the Drag Strip. The cheap wheels will be mainly for daily driving (Snow, Rain, Potholes and Curb rash). For once a non common thread and people get their panties in a dry knot. Plus if you spent all the money to make your car 600whp you would be damn near broke. Fine go get a set of work 12" Wide S1 or something else and spend 4gs. My wheels cost me 800 bucks new over a year ago. They are not made any wider thatn 9.5" and i want to keep them. I really like them and have not seen any other car with them. ![]()

Why would you bother widening the fronts if you are having traction problems? Even so why wouldnt you just put the rears in the front and just get the fronts widened from 8.5-11.5" and put them on the rear? If they are your drifting wheels why do you care so much about getting traction anyways? Sounds to me you really didnt think things thru and maybe you should just get stickier and slightly wider tires (295s for 9.5 rears) and maybe upgrade the suspension.

Suspension is done. Offset brake clearance that is why the rears don't just move to the front. If a take the 8.5+38 and move it to the rear and widen it to 11.5 the wheel will sit closer to the suspension and will be sunken in. So i do think things through you dolt! That is why the rears get widened they at +25 and are flush with the body on the outside. Secondly I want to do the front to maintain the balanced handling that I have with a simple 1" staggered setting that I have. That will give me a neutral handling car so when it does misbehave its predictable. Who said anything about drifting? ![]() Look at the picture they fit nicely don't they wide upfront as they are in the rear. Would you beat on a set of rims that cost as much (probably more) as your 240? ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally fitment with width and flushness. So i can do it right. ![]() I like my beater wheels and want them to be just as wide. Plus if you actually track a car and its wheel and tire combo are drastically different from the street to the track there is always a learning curve when transitioning from each form of usage. So did you think it through?

haha talk about getting your panties in a bunch. Im just saying, your complaining and showing off because a few ppl dont think ur idea is smart. but YOU ASKED for suggestions. If I came across as an asshole Im sorry, but I was just giving you a suggestion.
Oh and I havent driven in Nashville. I live in socal, and our roads rank 49th in the country. so you dont need to tell me about roads eating wheels....... =) I guess I just dont consider daily driving "beating" on wheels. I just drive slow and watch the road for potholes, tree roots, steel plates, etc. anyways, we will be waiting for pics. |
