Go to the Castro District in San Francisco. They have alot of "drifters" there that would be more than happy to show you some good spots.

We're not afraid of crashing or getting caught by cops. We're afraid of newbs like yourself going up, crashing/dying/etc and ruining these roads for the regulars.

We can, but it'd be best if you didn't go alone and went with someone experienced. Last thing needed would be two new drivers getting hyped up over the drive. I should know. It's happened to me. Luckily I've been around other experienced drivers to hell cooling down the hype.

^^^ I climbed Mt. Fuji when I was stationed there also. The best moments are when I'm climbing and gasping for breath and the little kids just running up there. It really pissed me off.

If you take I-5 north, get on I-580 until you get to I-80 west. After you get into the city, get off on 101north until you see market street. Go up onto Market street until you get to Castro St. Have all the fun you want but just don't bend over to check under your car.
