i kno this is probably pretty obvious , but im too tired to think straigh so i need some help. i took apart my b m short shifter in order to mount the plate to the top of the trans and in doing so one of the springs in the shifter fell out anyhow no that the trans is back up and im tryin to put the shifter in i cant remember which way everything goes between the small clip the spring and the small spacer that are all inside the shifter. and how the actual shifter sits in it -- in between everything else. and than on top of all that i cant remember if the freakin shifter is bent away or toward you. i kno i kno its NOOB MANIA on my end its crunch time and i got a million things goin on.

Um, trans fluid in? Are you filling your transmission from the shifter linkage opening?

Away from you.

The spring sits first, then the tiny spacer thing.

If you can't wrench in the SS, you should give up.

ghost racing.

apparently not all there.

its a shift assembly, you take the ENTIRE unit off to fill up your transmission. THEN, you bolt the entire unit on when done.

serious, you cant figure this simple one out, eh?

dont forget, when you change an alternator - you disconnect your negative battery terminal. oh yeah, and when you change your oil, you should unbolt the drain bolt. hehe

oh come on, thats so russian....

you dont need to cut the car to access those 2 bolts, you just need a proper sized wrench or ratchet - jesus...

i own a B&M shifter, besides the rattle (which i only had on the KA, not the SR).. the shifter is great. i really think its fantastic, and i canyon drive my car to shit.

i dont think there is a better shifter for our cars. just dont drill your chassis to install it!

you can also drill a hole in the shifter plate, tap it and put a bolt in it. easy way to have a trans fluid fill hole. just don't drill it while it's installed.

Or just go buy a single drive adapter.

By Drive Adapter, i mean the open ended wrench with an opening for a ratchet.

ok so let me get this right lol-- i kno i kno i should jus kept it together and bolted it on when the trans was up but like the other guy was saying i didnt have then right tool to do that since the last two bolts are a little further back so i figured id pour the trans fluid the area where the shifter sits and place it back in. so its the spring the space piece and than the shifter? on both sides? i jus wanna make sure because when i did that it didnt seem right since the shifter was still had a little too much play in it.

You'd get a lot more help if you appeared even remotely intelligent. People tend to ignore posts that look like a 4 yr old wrote them, including myself. If you're not even smart enough to use a keyboard, do you really need to be operating a car?

^^^ If you talked like that in person I would punch you in the face. At least put some effort in to your post so we can decipher what you're trying to say.

An easy way to fill your tranny up with fluid is to get a drill pump from Sears or any other tool place. Get some tubing and then fill it up through the fill plug on the side of the transmission.

When you get to it the front bolts are easier with a stubby 12mm ratcheting wrench and you can even drop the transmission crossmember a little to make it easier to get in there.

Good luck with it.

it's really easy to get to the bolts if u get your car up on jackstands. takes like 30 seconds to get to the front 2 bolts. take the whole thing out and start over. get it back together and install as one piece

You could always jack up the car and tighten the screws from the bottom of the car.

ok people since the entire forum tends to think there is something wrong with my writing please be a little more specific than just randomly saying, "oh you need to learn how to write" or what ever other dumb a** irrelevant comments that are coming through here. what dont you seem to understand? what can't you decipher? the trans is up. the crossmember is bolted on. the b&m short shifter plate is mounted on the trans alllreaddyy. the issue is that i have already takin the ss apart. i am now attempting to to re-assemble the shifter, and since some of you are have such a difficult time understanding plain and normal english ill break it down further. at this moment i have the actual shift rod out along with the plate that holds it down and also i have two small one inch brackets, two 1/2-3/4" spings and a small 1/8" spacer. these are the items that i am trying to put back together. these pieces are why i have opened up this forum. so for those that have attempted to offer legitament help- thanks. and to everyone else that has post miscellaneous junk on my thread -- maybe its time for you to get off the computer and go do something else becuase its obvious your spending wayyyy to much time on here. go do something useful! i dont care if you opened up the forum and it was writtin greek! if you noticed-if u could read the title says in plain english--b m short shifter help need... i didnt read anything about me needing help speakin english!

second of all, i dont like doing useful things. i like doing nothing, which is why i post here.

you need to have more respect man. especially when talking to professional shit talkers who are extremely sarcastic.

The number to B&M. They can tell you where everything goes!

The only problem with your situation is that you took apart the assembly. I haven't heard of anyone else doing this to install a B&M shifter or knockoff.

Try breaking down your posts in to paragraphs with each one relating to something else. In your last post above you could have whined in the first paragraph and made another paragraph for when you started to talk about what was wrong again. Also using capital letters at the beginning of sentences helps people read your post easier. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just generally people don't like to read through things written like crap, much less help the person afterwards. Reading through your first post is like when I try to drive my car through 1' of snow. I start to go, then all the crap piles up and I stop.

May I offer a suggestion? If you used a digital camera to take pictures of what you needed help with as far as re-assembling your shifter into the transmission, I bet everyone could help out. I'm down to help you out also.

I did a B&M knockoff. The round spring that's not flat but kinda wavy goes in first. Then you slide the bottom of the shift rod through your plastic spacer and insert it into the transmission, making sure that the pivot point fits properly into the linkage connection housing. Then you slide your 1/8" plastic spacer on top of the shift rod pivot ball. On top of the plastic spacer sits the top plate, and the two brackets you have attach the plate to the shifter housing by sliding into the groove on the side of the shifter housing and then being snugged down by alan (sp?) bolts at the four corners of the plate. I've included a drawing that may help.
