Problems with sard r2d2 bov
Has anyone had any problems with this bov?I bought a brand new one to replace my hks ssqv.I installed the r2d2 and the damn thing wont blow off wtf?I tried messing with the adjustment screw and stuff but still nothing.I am still using the same vacuum source as with the ssqv and I also tried different vacuum sources but nothing either. This is for a s14 sr20det by the way.Defective part or am I missing something here?Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hey man, i had the exact same problem as you. I bought the r2d2 brand new in the box. Couldnt get it to blow off for anything. Tried everything and then finally took it off and disassembled it and made sure the piston went up and down ok. After I put it back together it worked. So try what I did and it should fix it. Kinda disappointing that a brand new part would do that, but i absolutely love this bov. The sound is great. I have always hated the ssqv's chirp. And once disassembled you may want to put a very very very light coat of oil. but i didnt oil it, i just disassembled it to see if there was anything wrong on the inside and put it back on. Good luck!

Might have to call C3PO to come and fix it for you.
![]() Seriously though, have you tried calling or contacting the shop you bought it from? They should know how it works.

I know how it works its a simple BOV with tightening screw on top. It is a matter of the thing just NOT working. Its like the spring inside is so damn hard it wont open.

did you try taking it apart like i told the other guy? Mine has been working perfectly ever since i fixed mine. By far, my favorite bov is the r2d2. I have had the blitz DD and the sard is much louder and more aggressive.
And i boost mine at 14 lbs daily but it really only blows off at higher boost. At couple lbs of boost it compressor surges. So make sure your adjustment is at the loosest. |

Push it with your thumb to ensure movement.
Loosen the screw some. Make sure you have a good Vacuum source.

i have an R2D2 i bought used. it will stick for a little once i first start driving my car. as soon i build some boost though, it will unstick and be fine. also, it tends to happen way more in the cold. like someone else said, take it apart, give it a light coat of lubricant and it should be ok. if not call the place you bought it from and try to get another one or something.

Alright thanks I can push it with thumb and it moves fine just feels really hard. So im guessing at the low boost im just not creating enough pressure for it. Kinda sucks cause I don't daily drive at high boost. I'll try lubing it up and see if that helps.

Sounds like a bad vacuum source to me, because vac on one side and boost on the other should be opening it up No problem.
Where is it connected to?

did that pretty chick w/ the cinnamon rolls show up in a hologram saying.. "Help me Obi-One... youre my only hope"...
you might have to tee off a stronger vacuum source...

R2D2 needs a large diamater vacuum line, dedicated from the TB.
the piston is machine fit and metal. it will stick if not used or if there is condensation that enters the system (will always happen) go back to the SSQV for reliablity and no compressor surge. or depress that piston, run the biggest vacuum line you can find and learn to deal with adjusting it for how much boost you want to run....

Or contact the manufacturer and ask them if they make a softer spring for it?

Quote:
it's a metal piston in a metal sleeve. instead of gaskets in there it's precision fit and often gets "stuck". part of the design. yet another reason i went another route, worked on too many cars with them that had problems. if you use it all the time and have sufficient blowby to keep it lubed, then no problems. other than still having to adjust it for how much boost you want to run. |

I have the same problem. I took it apart. Lubed up the piston and cylinder wall. Opened up the vacuum port on top of the cap. Same thing.
The spring is way too stiff. It has too much tension. Does your spring have a hint of color red spray painted?

Who gives a crap? What, you want me to make a new thread regarding this issue when there's already a thread about the problem I'm having with my blow-off valve? Why don't you just shut your face and go back to the Philippines you dumbass.

![]() On the otherhand, why not pm the people that talked about the bov in this thread? just an idea :P...
