![]() OK I just swapped in my s14 SR20DET. The engine has been sitting outside for about 5-6 months before I put it in. Lets not forget the time spent getting it sent from japan and such.
I'd assume the motor was stock when I got it. Would I have to change the timing or SHOULD it be fine? |

sorry I am still learning.. I believe the s14 SR20DET has a timing chain. I am not talking about replacing it, but I guess checking it or whatever to see if its OK.
Should I HAVE to do this? I am just assuming no because I think the engine's internals are stock. Thanks |

you are correct about the chain. It would be good to replace it since the motor is out but its not mandatory. As far as resetting the timing goes, you really dont need to adjust it yet. Just drop in the motor and crank it. If it starts you are good to go. If not, THEN adjust timing.

Hello if you want to check the timing take the valve cover off,put it at TDC and make sure all marks are where they should be refering to the FSM.Once the motor is up & runing adj as needed with a timing light + seat of the pants to achive desired goals.
