Nope. Sorry Travis. No cigar for you.

5 1/8 pints. Buy three quarts (6 pints) and use a little more than 2 and a half of them. I suppose you could save the rest...but why?

actually, the specs for the tranny oil went up 1qrt.......so a little less than 4 is actually what it should be.

so you mean on the S14 it requires about 3.5 quarts?

On my s13 it takes exactly 2.4 (just barely drips out the fill hole)

no, i don't mean on the S14 (considering that all transmissions are the same iirc) and you have to plug the fill hole and dump it in up by the shifter to get the 3.5qts or whatever it takes.

this is just what a tech told me.

think this change is nissan's way of recognizing the 3rd gear issue?

Really? So when did this happen and where was it written down? Not knocking your tech, but I don't trust them at ALL. Until I see it in a TSB from Nissan, I'm going with the 2.4 liters (5 1/8 pints) listed on the back of the FSM.

I believe you can fill up the tranny with as much fluid as possible, through the shifter. but not too much, don't want fluid all over the place. so I think 3.5qts should barely fill up the shifter hole. I put in 3qts and I could see the fluid level from the shifter hole. I think the shifter hole is the best place to put tranny fluid in.

i know, i agree.........note that i don't take my car there anymore. i was skeptical at first as well......but he swore by it, and i got the service manager to witness his statement, so if something fucks up because of it..........they're payin.

Good call with that guarantee. I'm shifting just fine with ~2.6 quarts right now. I'm going to stick with that until my synchros tell me otherwise.

Side note:

The leak I had coming from my OBX shifter (missing pieces) had caused me to lose a whole quart over 5 months. It didn't start out that bad, but it got REALLY bad the last month. I know how much leaked out because I added a quart month from the end, and when I poured the old stuff back into the bottles, it only totaled 2.5 quarts. Yikes! Good thing I added some! You should have seen the underside of my car. Spray from the fluid was just everywhere....still is Should probably clean that off.

Eric

Well I used the fill hole method of adding trans fluid to my car and filled it right till it started coming out. Then my friend told me I should have stopped just below that line and not to worry, I'll just have a little coming out of the purge vent at the top for a week or so. Sure enough I had a blue puddle under my trans for the first week which stopped growing after that. Car shifts fine and no complaints. I'm guessing with an extra quart, my driveway would have been much wetter than it was but i'd still be running the same amount of fluid after a week.

I guess some time i'll check to make sure the level is still good, but it all happened just as predicted so I never worried about it.
