Megan Racing Turbo Manifold
I was wondering if anyone had some experience with the bottom mount Megan Racing turbo manifold? I'm trying to do a budget sr and was considering getting this manifold . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah stay with log until you the money to buy something nice
i waited a couple more weeks and got myself a tomei expreme manifold kit, its complete! look into it came with... exhaust manifold (nice thick flanges and pipe walls, and welds are awesome) oem 7-layer metal exhaust manifold gasket oem 3-layer metal turbo inlet gasket oem compressor inlet gasket washers for the oil&water lines studs & lock plates for the manifold smooth paste for bolts & studs heatwrap stickers!!! for the MR turbo manifold, i read some crack some don't, but i think its from people's setups, i've found that cracking is due to mix of vibration and heat = crack, i'm thinking the ones that didn't crack had solid motor mounts, flex dp etc. MR turbo manifold does not increase performance or atleast not a noticeable difference. |

They're cheap, if you crack one... just buy another for $190 bucks. They shouldn't crack if you get some stiff motor/exhaust mounts and a flexpipe.
If you beat the ever-loving piss out of your car daily, then yeah it prolly will crack sooner than later.

neither do any of ones of similar dimensions. It depends how much power your putting out. For lower HP motors, you apparently do not make that much more extra top end.

just because its cheap doesn't mean he should waste his money on something that will break and give him no noticeable gains.

If you buy one make sure all you exhaust hangers are doing thier jobs, especially at the downpipe. Alot of people dont have thier DP's supported, or are too low and bang it causing the manifold to crack. Also I heard splitting the runners is a good idea. But honestly, a bored out log mani with EWG>tubular, I know quite a few people making around and over 400whp with that setup, and spool is retarded fast.

Ive got a MR one with a gt2871r, step 1's and JGS rubber mounts and two broken exhaust hangers...My N1 is only held on by the two hangers on the muffler and one hanger on the tranny mount off the dp all the rest of them broke. (ive got to shorten and replace all of them any way) but my mani is fine never cracked. Belive it or not the 5 bolts on the back of the turbo broke off and so did one of the bolts holding the turbo on the manifold. so i welded everything together and have been leak/crack free for months.
IMO if uve got a MR mani and a stock turbo just weld them together and weld the MR ellbow to the turbo too and never look back. Best decision ive ever made. |

I've had 4 turbo outlet studs snap at the same time before I even thought I had a crack in my megan manifold. I bought mine new for 100. No flex joint and I've had no problems.

Honestly, its not bad for the price and will last if taken care of. I bought one for my GT2871R and to be honest with you, I was slightly impressed. It did eventually crack tho but again, my car is slammed to the ground and i dragged my exhaust everywhere. My car was so low that my Blitz Nur Spec exhaust flange would tap road turtles when I changed lanes.
The worst thing I've done to that manifold havent about 6-8 before it cracked. I was driving back from LA to SF, driving thru the grapevine, I hit a dip so hard, I bottomed out my downpipe. A couple miles later I started noticing an exhaust leak. I pulled over and check around. I bottomed out so hard that I sheared the bolts/studs from my Greddy Elbow to my turbo. I drove it home like that. Like I said, after that, I expected the manifold to be cracked or what not. I pulled the whole setup out to fix the turbo studs and inspected the manifold, no hairline cracks, nothing.... Any after market manifold will crack, just a matter of time. Some will last longer than others, take car of it and itll be fine. Stiff engine mounts, a flex pipe on your downpipe and make sure all your exhaust hangers are good. |
