Ok I am swapping the engine from a nissan that I have to my other nissan cause the timing gears are all messed up and figured it would be easier to swap and I need to know what all I am going to have to do to get this accomplished anyone that can help thanx alot.....

You should probably mention what type of nissans they are. As far as swapping engines because of messed up gears, it is probably easier just changing the cam spockets.

I have a 1990 Nissan 240sx Coupe and I want to swap it and put it in my 1989 Nissan 240sx Fastback because the Coupe is wrecked. The timing gears were messed up in the F/B's engine so we decided to exchange them, Now How would I go about exchanging them ?

Don't Ka24e's run on a timing belt, and not a chain, or gears? It is the exact same engine... why swap, unless something greater is F'd up.
But it should be a 4 step procedure: 1) Get a FSM, or at least a Chiltons. 2) Remove 1990 engine. Remember how you did it. 3) Remove 1989 engine. Remember how you did it again. 4) Swap engines, and install reverse of removal. This should be the easiest thing. The engines and cars are the same. Or click your heals 3 times. -Jeff

The thing is, if it is just your timing gears, there is really no reason to swap motors. If there are other reasons to swap, then go for it just like Jeff240sx said. If not, just swap the messed up gears. The KA24E's do run on a chain and there is a cam gear but I don't see how it got messed up.

The engine that we are swapping has 30,000 miles less on it so we thought we could go through the extra hassle, cause wasnt sure how much work would really have to go into trying to switch the gears.....

OK GUYS, THIS IS A DIFFERENT QUESTION BUT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE.
whenever i start my car, it sounds like a truck..the engine is really loud (just like a truck) and i know 240sx is not suppose to make that kind of noise...can anyone tell me what is wrong with it? |

Either that, or you oil is really low, and you're engine is dying. Hopefully it isn't the latter. I had it before and it turns out I was low on oil (valve cover was leaking). Thats all that I can think of. Do a search for deisle and you may find a similar problem. I remember reading about it way back. I don't know what else it could be other than what was already mentioned.

I had a similar problem with the sound of my engine about a year ago. I had just got it back from having it rebuilt and it sounded really wierd. I thought I had a hole in my exhaust pipe, but it turns out it was just a screw loose on my headers. When I tighted it, it sounded like it should. Don't know if this helps any.

To the kid who wants to do the motor swap: 1. Get an engine hoist ($150) 2. Lots and lots of tools, 4 jackstands & a 3-ton lift, a creeper (remember the fender guards too) 3. Someone to help you 4. Coolant (remember to mix it with water) 5. New drive/accessory belts 6. 4 quarts of oil and a new oil filter 1. Remove the trans (you need to take off the clutch cyl., disconnect all the sensors, then remove starter motor from trans, ,remove your propeller shaft (be careful), remove exhaust tube mounting bracket then support your trans with some wood blocks or something. Then remove the rear mounting bracket, and then lower it as much as you can and take the shifter with the housing out of the trans, and you're done. 2. Remove the car's hood 3. Remove the engine under cover 3. Drain the coolant (drain plugs on the block and radiator, both) and then the oil 4. Take off all the vacuum hoses, fuel tubes, ,wires, harnesses and whatever else you may find 5. Remove the exhaust manifold 6. Remove the radiator & fan shroud 7. Remove drive belts 8. Remove the A/C pump and the power steering pump 9. Install the slingers to the head* You'll need to torque them down to about 20 lbft. 10. Voila, motor removed. *slingers are located by the intake manifold all the way at cylinder #1 (facing the front of the car) and all the way back by the exhaust manifold by cyl. #4 (facing the driver's side of the vehicle). |
