Auto tranny hesitates on gear changes
I noticed I think going from 2nd to 3rd at wot, the the tach stays at 6k longer than normal before it shifts. Or so it seems. Hopefully I'm not confusing 1st to second though.
I also notice that sometimes under normal driving the tach would start to slow down at 3k rpm unless you gave it a lil more gas, but soon as u let off and get back on it it slows down at 3k for a second, and starts climbing normal like. What basically controls the shifting of the auto trans on 240s. I plan to get a flush even though I had new fluid put in like a year ago. However I think you can get a pressurized flush with a machine. If so I think I'm gonna get it done that way. Other than that anything else like tps maybe or anything electronic? Thanks for any help. |

Eh lol. I really don't wanna swap. I was kinda hoping to eventually save up for a car I can really drive hard and then just daily this one. Right now its sorta playing both roles.
I'm hoping all I need is a flush and is something like tps or whatever. Just so long as the tranny isn't gone. I mean it doesn't feel to be slipping, just staying in gear longer. I think I know what slippin feels like, cause my dads chev malibu use to do that, when you give it gas u feel like your spinning and going no where |

Hey if a timing chain guide snapped off I would know correct like...the motor would die or something audible would happen lol correct. Kinda jumping to conclusions, but I never really checked to see if that top guide hadn't broke off. I was just gonna wait till I finally painted my spare valve cover and put it on.
Just wanted to make sure thats what I was experiencing. |

Naw timing chain wont mess with tranny or shifts....Either auto tranny is starting to wear from abuse or ecu is wierding out is all I can think of and its prolly not the ecu. Auto trannys werent built for driving hard they gotta be rebuilt for that they are made to drive from point a to point b and get good gas to much drifting for auto tranny

I'm not too familiar with automatic Nissan transmissions but I am around Honda autos all day where I work (Honda). There is no real fix for slipping auto trannys and the solution is to just install a new/used trans. You can try a flush and that might help a bit, but like stated before autos were never designed to hold up to the wear and tear of a 5 speed and rebuilding is usually not a favorable experience.

Yeah I see what you guys are saying, but it doesn't feel to be slipping. Like I said with my dads car, at one point we were constantly having to pull over and take it out of drive and put it back in. You would have to feell it engage, other wise you were pretty much slippin. With my car its nothing like that. Just feels like the car doesn't know when to shift sometimes or something.
Btw I checked the atf fluid after driving hoem from work, and the end was full covered on the hotside. The fluid was still the lavender color (mobil 1 syn). So I dunno. They do have pressurized flushes correct? I think mechanic that did my flush prolly just changed fluid. He has a small establishment. Think I'm gonna take it to a better equipped shop this time. |

Hmm thanks for the offer...I'm va. I think I'm just gonna try a flush. Friend of mine who is a mechanic called me tonight, and I asked if there was such thing as machine flush and he said yeah.
Think I'm gonna try that. Btw it only seems to do this on one gear change. Unsure if its 2-3 or 3-4. However even though the tach seems stuck, the speedo has a steady climb, and doesn't hesitate along with it. So maybe its suppose to stay in gear for that long? This is like 60 or 70mph+ range. |

ehhhh.... i dunno. still seems like a great reason to switch to 5-speed.
i gotta say... 5 speed daily's are fun unless you are stuck in socal rush hr traffic everyday. either way. goodluck.

Hmm I noticed the other day my overdrive was off. I normally drive with it on. I wonder if I accidently had it off since this all occured. Doesn't seem to hesitate as long with it on as with it off

There is a sonsor on the left front fender well just ahead of the shock tower near the air box. It controls the shifting on auto trannys. Try disconnecting and reconecting it. My buddie's s13 auto was doing the same thing. We disconnected and reconnected that sensor and it started shifting smoothly no problems.

So gonna try that sensor, and hopefully soon machine flush. BTW anyone know how often you should flush auto trans? |

I would wait since it hasn't been that long since I had the fluid changed, but then again it wasn't done by machine I'm almost 99% sure, and there's a new fluid I wanna try. After that I'll make note of exact mileage for the next flush.
Thanks for the heads up |
