word of advice. if you havent gotten it already, DO NOT GET IT!!!!!! it could be a number of things, but worse case is a broken rod or cracked piston. and it could cost you allot to fix it

If the block is good, cheap and you feel like building a motor why not? Get that bitch resleeved and rebuild! Could be a good candidate for an SR20VET

hey im in queens and i got my swap for 1900 compleate, and localy . look around and im sure you can find one. try and knock him down some and it could be a good project. koopa troopa has a point. if ur up for it you can rebuild the sr and have a monster if done right, its all on you. but beware, its gonna cost you. if he wants ill take it of his hands for the right price how much are you looking to spend on a swap????

Tell him you'll buy the block and the harness for $400... You won't need the transmission or ECU and I'm sure you can find one somewhere else along the way... Take the block to your backyard, spray it down with carb cleaner and degreaser, take some rags and a hose to it... Then get some ziplock baggies, take shit apart and label it. LABEL EVERYTHING!!! You shouldn't need to do any porting and if you do really only the intake side needs to be opened up. Get a factory service manual and if you run into trouble feel free to ask questions... You'll learn alot doing this shit yourself and since it's just a learning project you won't feel rushed and you can just buy shit when you have money to spare. |

Yeah but a complete motor will run...
If you have the ability, then buy the motor set and rebuild it. That way you can build it for what you have planned for it. No offence or anything, but if you are not willing to spend $1600 on a complete running motor, I doubt you will want to put in the money to do a GOOD, COMPLETE rebuild. Save yourself the hassle and buy a whole running motor

if your considering rebuilding a motor, why bother getting an SR20?
Find a cheap KA, tear it apart, and slowly rebuild it.

I'd buy that motor for $400 and just rebuild it (take your time with it). However, you're on a budget so just save up and be patient. SR motor in Canada will cost you around $2500-3500 prices have gone up as they are hard to find now.
KA motor will last, if you take care of it! I had trouble blowing my KA motor and it had almost 200,000 km on it before i swap'd the motor. Just be patient, you'll be better of. Steve. |

Its not that i dont want to spend 1600 and get a complete engine its the fact that i can save some money and get that engine from my friend and fix it and buy parts for it but if its something serious with the motor like broken rod or cracked piston then hell yes i rather get a a complete motor and that is wat ill probably do. And when it comes to KA i never even thought about rebuilding one i just dont c a potential in it.

You don't sound like you have done swaps or rebuilt motors before so honestly just buy one that works. It will cost you way more in the long run to rebuild it right. Unless you have means to a machine shop and good deals on parts.
Buy one that works. Put it in. Done! |

You are right, it is never to late to learn, and it is good that you want to jump in and give it a try. BUT, you can't just jump in there and expect to learn it all. It would really help if you had someone that knows lots that you can work with. That way you are doing it, you are learning, but it is going to be alot easier and whatever you choose to do, it will probably come out alot better, and happen alot quicker.
** 100th post..nice haha **

Alright man, this is what you have to understand. You might be saving money picking up your buddies engine and rebuilding it or you might not. It really just depends on the shape of the engine. If you are on a tight budget I would advise against it. But it's your money.
For example, I bought the ride in my sig below for $1100 because of a SR with Rod knock. (I got a clean body, and greddy front mount out of the deal to so it made sense to me.) My plan was to pull the engine replace the bearings and button her back up. Well what I found was the crank was toast. After 3 weeks of searching I found a crank and took the engine to a machine shop to find out the head was crap. Then I was looking at $3000 for a total stock rebuild. I figured ok, I'll buy a long block from another member and save my self $2000. Got that bad boy, dropped her in and yep, my head is shot as well. It always sounds like a simple solution to just pick up a bad engine and have it rebuilt, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.
